David Mamet Outgrows Moonbattery
A member of the elite intelligentsia has cured himself of moonbattery. Playwright David Mamet, from yesterday's essay "Why I Am No Longer a 'Brain-Dead Liberal'":
I took the liberal view for many decades, but I believe I have changed my mind.
According to liberal ideology, everything is always wrong, so we must Hope for Change, to be imposed by an omnipotent bureaucracy.
But in my life, a brief review revealed, everything was not always wrong, and neither was nor is always wrong in the community in which I live, or in my country. Further, it was not always wrong in previous communities in which I lived, and among the various and mobile classes of which I was at various times a part. […]
What about the role of government? Well, in the abstract, coming from my time and background, I thought it was a rather good thing, but tallying up the ledger in those things which affect me and in those things I observe, I am hard-pressed to see an instance where the intervention of the government led to much beyond sorrow.
The whole edifice of liberalism started to crumble within him…
And I began to question my hatred for "the Corporations" — the hatred of which, I found, was but the flip side of my hunger for those goods and services they provide and without which we could not live. And I began to question my distrust of the "Bad, Bad Military" of my youth, which, I saw, was then and is now made up of those men and women who actually risk their lives to protect the rest of us from a very hostile world.
Mamet praises the free market as the best model for social organization and even calls Thomas Sowell "our greatest contemporary philosopher." Miserable liberals lost in the fever swamps of authoritarian moonbattery can take heart: there is still hope for you if you open your minds.

No doubt he will be punished for this. The left never allows one of their own to defect without punishment.

I had a great laugh this morning reading my WaPo over a bagel and coffee and enjoying tautological UN-style logic. Today's editorial from Ban Ki Moon: "The New Face of Hunger". Synposis:
1. Food has gotten really, really expensive
2. This has been caused by global warming (oh, and as an aside, "some experts say the rise of biofuels has reduced the amount of food available for humans".)
3. With prices skyrocketing, what are govts doing about it? Price-fixing, of course! "Many governments have issued export bans and price controls on food, distorting markets and presenting challenges to commerce." Which is making the whole problem much worse.
4. So....now that we know, and even Ki-Moon knows, that using food as fuel, fixing prices, and other government activities and interference in the market are the very causes of the problem, his solution is...
"What is required are political will and resources, directed effectively and efficiently."
"we must strengthen U.N. programs"
Third, we must deal with the increasing consequences of ... the long-term consequences of climate change"
So, to bring this chuzpatic tautologic exercise to a close, we fed all our food to our cars to avoid global warming at the advice of the UN's IPCC, which has led to higher food prices, which has led to government interference in the markets which now has a billion people starving, which can now be solved by giving more money to the UN, which it will use to combat global warming.

Glad to hear this, as I have always enjoyed his work.
Old joke: A toff, on his way into a theatre, sees a beggar and sniffily tells him: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be – William Shakespeare", to which the bum replies: "F**k you – David Mamet."

I'm assuming Mr. Mamet has made enough money to survive the death of his career at the hands of vengeful moonbats. If not, expect a hasty retraction as he begs for financing for his next project.

Is he still gay, or is that the next announcement in his life?

" . . .kind of like someone leaving Islam." Pretty damn close, MikeNC.
Hope this is real (appears to be) -- always enjoyed his work, especially "Glengarry Glen Ross," a great film. The other posters are right, in that Mr. Mamet needs to lose the beard and those huge glasses (seems like he could afford contact lenses, by now). But then, perhaps he'd better save his money, for he might never work again in Hollyweird or New York (home of Client No. 9/Thug No. 1, now former Gov. Elliot "Scumbag" Spitzer, along with his kiss-ass buddy, Sen. Shrillary Rodham).
Gotta feel sorry for the idiots in NY who keep electing pieces of garbage like those two, and Chuckie Schemer, to boot! What a pathetic state . . .

nanc -
Wife or not, I want to know if he will leap out of the closet?
Ask the Former Gov of NJ if being married to a 'woman' precludes someone like him from being gay.
I'm exposed to Gay married men all the time through conducting business. Just calling it as I see it.
The jumping out of the closet must be somewhere on the 'Moonbat 12 step process to enlightnment of truth.'

I was going to comment on your use of the word "jejune" in a post above.
When the Spitzer debacle hit, the word popped to mind and I was intent upon its use.
Then I read the Mamet piece.
Now, I really can't use that word. Without appearing jejune.

Somehow this makes one of my favorite movies, "Spartan", just a little bit better. :)
Kudos to Mr. Mamet. It's not easy for anyone to make such fundemental belief changes.

I've got a SPECIAL closet door for you to jump out of, oiao-wowee!
Don't be frightened of the wind, the traffic, and those headlights seven flights down.
