Barack Obama Already Screwing Up Relations with Canada
Posted by Dave Blount at March 3, 2008 10:47 AM
There could be drawbacks to putting an adolescent in charge of American foreign policy, even if he does inspire moonbats with Hope for Change. Barack Hussein Obama has been pandering to rustbelt audiences in Ohio by advocating protectionism, while his staff whispers to our #1 trade partner Canada that he doesn't really mean it. Unlike most Democrats, Canada has started to wonder just what B.O. really does mean, if anything.
Obambi's handlers tried claiming they never told Canadians he wasn't sincere about strangling free trade. However, our northern neighbors produced documentation to the contrary. A memo from the meeting includes this tribute to Obama's sincerity:
Noting anxiety among many U.S. domestic audiences about the U.S. economic outlook, [Obama advisor Austan] Goolsbee candidly acknowledged the protectionist sentiment that has emerged, particularly in the Midwest, during the primary campaign. He cautioned that this messaging should not be taken out of context and should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans.
In this context, "political positioning" means "pandering to voters with deliberate lies." The Obama folks have now gone to Plan B, pretending their guy was misunderstood. Thomas Lifson comments on the dustup:
Let's face facts: if Team Obama is capable of screwing up relations with the country most similar to us, the country that knows us best, and that has the biggest stake in the health of our economy and continuing American good will, imagine what kind of havoc would be created when dealing with the likes of the Russians, the Chinese, the Syrians, or the Palestinians.
Judging by their annoyance, it's doubtful the Canadians misunderstand B.O. But he'd better hope the American public does, or he'll never get elected.

On a tip from Byron.
