Animal Planet Goes Moonbatty
Watched mostly by children and old people, Animal Planet is now targeting a more lucrative demographic by plunging off the deep end of moonbattery in an attempt to be "edgier":
A network crew returned to port in Australia last week after tagging along on a mission to interfere with a Japanese whaling expedition in the Antarctic. A miniseries about the experience, "Whale Wars," is expected to air this fall.
To make the series, Animal Planet worked with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, activists who are considered heroic defenders of wildlife or dangerous meddlers, depending on your politics. On this trip, the group tossed rancid butter on Japanese ships to make the decks slippery and spoil whale meat, and diplomatic intervention was needed after two society members climbed aboard a Japanese ship.
In saner times, these vandals would be harpooned; slippery decks could get innocent sailors killed. Sea Shepherd moonbats sail under the Jolly Roger like the sociopathic outlaws they are, and have been accused of trying to sink ships.
Any notions that Animal Planet would take a neutral point of view have been dispelled:
Rivr Media and independent producer Dan Stone developed the idea for the series, said Rob Lundgren, the company's president. He described Stone as an "avid supporter" of the Sea Shepherd Society who has contributed money to the group.
"We're all really intrigued by people who want to … make a difference on the planet," Lundgren said.
Producers doubted they would be given access to Japanese whaling boats, so they didn't try. Makers of "Whale Wars" made no attempt to get the Japanese side of the story at all, Lundgren said.
Apparently there's only one side to environmental stories: the antihuman side. But hey, whatever helps the ratings and allows the network to tout its social consciousness.

A couple of 50 caliber machine guns mounted on the decks of the Jap ships would take care of "the problem".

"On this trip, the group tossed rancid butter on Japanese ships to make the decks slippery and spoil whale meat"
If they spoil the whale meat wouldnit that just cause the whalers to have to catch more to make up for the spoilt meat the caring activists ruined in the first place. It seems to defeat the purpose and only cause more whaling. (not to mention as the post did that they are trying to hurt the people working on the ships which should get them throwen in jail).

The annual Hawaiian whale count, which took place last month, documented an all time high - over 1,700 whales were counted in a 24-hour period.
I don't advocate slaughter, but I'm just saying...

Man, I like watching Animal Planet sometimes (i.e. their documentary last year about the orangutan sanctuary was a great, interesting film about what's being legally done to protect those fascinating animals from extinction), but that's definitely going too far. As was pointed out, the rancid butter thrown on the deck could easily cause innocent sailors to get hurt.
Pity, it was a great network. It's a good thing Steve Irwin's not around anymore to see how badly it's been perverted.

I always like to watch Animal Precinct, because it was alway kewl to see abused and neglected animals rescued!
I hate the fact tha AP has not only "got onboard with enviro terrorists", but they didn't bother to get the story from the other side.
