The Lights Begin to Go Out
Nothing could be more symbolic of Britain's decline as moonbattery eats it away from within:
Street lights in suburban areas are to be switched off after midnight as part of council plans to save energy.
A series of trial blackouts will be carried out over the next few weeks by local authorities in the Home Counties, Hampshire and Essex among others.
Buckinghamshire council is reported to be switching off more than 1,700 lights along 25 miles of road in an attempt to meet energy targets.
Supposedly this will prevent carbon emissions. No sane person would expect it to affect the Earth's climate. But the point is to atone for the sin of existing.
If the trials are successful, all street lamps across the country could be turned off between midnight and 5am.
This in a country pockmarked with spreading Muslim "no-go" zones — a country where even firemen are assaulted by "youths" when they go out to do their job, and where the law-abiding have no means of self-defense.
As the Muslim situation continues to degenerate, the practice of torching cars is sure to catch on in Britain as it has in France. Britons who dare go out at night can make their way through the jungle by the light of blazing vehicles.
But the wiser ones will remain inside behind double-locked doors, grateful that for now the government still allows their homes to be lit.
On a tip from V the K.

The Neo-Luddites will have us all sitting in the dark soon!

Let's see...
Street lights are for one purpose: Public Safety.
Algorians trump public safety.
It's just the beginning, folks.

England has made a huge investment in public cameras than won't work in the dark. I don't see this spreading to the more densly populated areas.

Let's see, no firearms. Now banning knives. Being overrun by illegal immigrants and immigrants of marginal acceptability. Virtual Police State with minimal freedom for law abiding citizens. Incredible taxes for broken gov representation and specifically the broken national health system. The Labor Party pushes to gain more socialist control.
Sounds like the US Democratic Party (the asses - oops, Donkeys) are taking the playbook right out of the UK.
US citizens, if the Dims win this round, welcome to the third world.

Of course as Van points out the symbolism is profound. Light, artificial light, is one of the most powerful symbols of civilisation- or perhaps more accurately of humanity. Humans have made fires, fat lamps, candles, for thousands of years, and they are all symbols that "mankind is here". To the person lost in the wilderness to spy an artificial light is to spy salvation. Artificial light and heat, almost always the result of oxidation of carbon compounds, was the essential first step on man's path towards the present day. Taming fire- the ability unique to humans of being able to oxidise carbon at will and thus release the solar energy stored by plants in productive ways is the very cornerstone of our technology. There can be no clearer indicator of the Greens' hatred of their own kind than the symbolism of plunging us back into the darkness- a word that throughout history has been a metaphor for fear, ignorance and barbarism. It's no coincidence that the first act of God in the creation story is the creation of light. Without it, we are nothing.

Off Topic but concerning nevertheless. Socialism, immigration and its costs, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Instead of turning the lights out, why can't they slow down the frequency of the electric current by 50% for all hours which the lights are on, thereby saving the same amount of energy while maintaining nearly the same light levels.
I can't believe AlGore didn't think of this already!

This is why common sense loses to moonbattery. A moonbat proposal to literally turn off the lights of civilization is implemented without question or debate because it satisfies the moonbat prerogatives of the times, in this case, fear of ManBearPig and worship of Gaia.
The forces of Common Sense (the antithesis of moonbattery) are constantly on defense, fighting to make Muslims wash their hands before performing surgery, fighting for the free market allocation of goods and services, fighting to preserve the values that make civilization possible. Moonbattery advances by edict, but any assertion of common sense must be fought for.
It's very hard to read a story like this and not believe that the destruction of civilization isn't the goal.

I mentioned this on another thread. The power plants will keep producing electricity wheather or not it's used. All they're doing here is saving wear and tear on LIGHTBULBS.
