Shrine to Moonbattery to Replace Alcatraz?
Alcatraz is a cash cow for San Francisco, drawing 1.4 million tourists a year. But moonbats want to put the island to a new use by razing the prison and replacing it with a "global peace center."
This shrine to moonbattery would include "a medicine wheel, a labyrinth and a conference center for non-violent conflict resolution."
"Da Vid," as the director of California's Global Peace Foundation calls himself, promises that it will "liberate energies, raising the whole consciousness of the Bay Area."
Not even the San Francisco Comical can refrain from smirking:
Perhaps we haven't reached the proper stage of enlightenment yet, but we're more inclined to support propositions with defined sources of funding attached to them.
Da Vid responds to the naysayers:
Like John Lennon, I may be a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.
If only it weren't true.

On a tip from Jimbo.

Gotta give the paper a little credit for scoffing at this idea, but they're still thinking in terms of "funding" rather than "investment" and "earnings". Typical parasite mindset.

They could rename it the Ministry of Love - and the last stop on the tour is ROOM 101.

Room 101 - The final punishment for thought criminals in the Ministry of Love.
"The thing in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world....The worst thing in the world varies from individual to individual. It may be burial alive, or death by fire, or by drowning, or by impalement, or fifty other deaths....."

Alcatraz is a symbol of justice and what happens when you break the law and are rightfully punished. Naturally, the moonbats hate it for this.

Medicine wheel? Seriously...

The part that puzzles me most is that last I recall, the island--like most of the state, belongs to the Federal Government (a National Park now, innit?) and not subject to SF vote. I.m not even sure it is in SF County.

If it belongs to the Federal government, W ought to build a giant statue of himself flipping the bird back at San Francisco. I'd chip in for that.

Ugh, everytime I think of that Marxist douchebag John Lennon, I get ill. Yea, nothing like plugging the Communist Manifesto in a song while raking in craploads of money. Hypocritical fuck. But, thats right, giving up all our possessions and living like serfs is only for the 'little people' or the 'brown people' or whatever.

You're definitely not alone in hating that pretentious, two- faced prick, Brooklyn. He sang about imagining no possessions, yet he was worth millions and owned very expensive apartments. He sang about imagining peace and love for everyone, yet he was known to have been verbally and at times physically abusive to both of his wives (I'm told that the autobiography of his first wife Cynthia gives detailed accounts of some of the crap he put her through while they were married). Every time they play that asinine, obnoxious song on the radio at work, I try to do something loud to drown it out for me.
Getting back on topic, what they were proposing would be a HUGE mistake. Alcatraz, as Van points out in his article, is an enormous tourist attraction which brings in people from all over the place and generates loads of money for the city. This "Peace center" would only attract a few dirty hippies and some drug dealers interested in using the place as a venue to sell their wares to the aforementioned hippies

Wasn't this already tried 40 years ago in the name of the Native American Hippie?
Oops, looks like making a profit out of the place (the ferry service makes good coin on the consession to the NPS) beat out the Love In Commune bunch.

There's already a place for aging hippies whose brains have been rotted to the core by marijuana to hang out and pontificate on matters they don't understand. It's called San Francisco. And for those of them that decide to finally dispense altogether with showering, there's a place for them too: Berkeley. So this Institute of Incessant Rambling has no purpose.
