Graziano Cecchini Presents Vandalism as Art
The corrosive effects of moonbattery remain on open display in the art world, which has now degenerated into vandalism. The latest masterpiece by Graziano Cecchini consists of littering Rome's Spanish Steps with brightly colored plastic balls.
Cecchini explains his work:
I am leaving for Burma, these balls will help the Karen people.
The Karen people are ethnic Tibetans. Cecchini also says that each of the balls "represented a lie told by a politician." He should have added, "within the last hour," since there were only 500,000 of them.
Past accomplishments include dying the water in the Trevi Fountain red to highlight the plight of poor artists in Italy. He got off scot-free for that, despite having been caught on video. This time it looks like he might have to pay a fine.

On a tip from Lyle.

This asshat should be made to pick up each ball, one at a time, walk at least 50 feet to a dumpster and place each ball in there. Then walk back and get the next ball - until hes done.
Assuming he can pick up 5 balls per minute working 16 hour days, it should take him 100,000 minutes or 1,667 hours or 92 days.

What a dick! Why the heck wasn't this clown at least fined for the cost of cleaning the Trevi Fountain?

I saw video of this on the news this morning. Maybe I was indoctrinated in those college art history and architecture classes, after all, but I find this to be a clever and attractive work -- and a quality prank, to boot.

>....these balls will help the Karen people.>
Don't let him leave untill he gives a SATISFACTORY explination as to HOW this would help ANYONE besides the people who sold him those balls!

A prank is one thing, but this jerk is pretending that he's doing something USEFULL!
Posted by: KHarn at January 17, 2008 5:58 PM
I think its a brilliant art form.

"A prank is one thing, but this jerk is pretending that he's doing something USEFULL!"
You could well argue that you've described ninety percent of all artists these days!

Hash;
Once again you say something I agree with. Are you trying to CONFUSE me?

As a long time artisan I can reaffirm that many artists are in it for a gimmick to get rich.
Many of the bad apples that I am referring to are fun people, but their art is more like piracy.

"Are you trying to CONFUSE me?"
Not at all! Just because someone calls themselves an artist doesn't mean they are a good artist.
You really don't need talent to be an artist anymore.
"Many of the bad apples that I am referring to are fun people, but their art is more like piracy."
This is so true as well, and a lot of their shtick is "controversial", for "controversy"'s sake.
I'm so tired of "edgy" and I suspect I'm not the only one.

the criteria for being a "good" or "bad" artist is purely subjective. I for one think this was brilliant, but some of you might find it stupid. It is an opinion, not a fact.
what makes "art" good or bad depends on how it is viewed by the viewer and what it does for them.

I do not see how a prank that cost taxpayers money to clean up is considered art. A protest, maybe.
This was a selfish prank - most likely just for the notariety, not the Karen.

I just think its funny and people need to lighten up. Sure that is going to suck to clean up and I do think Cecchini should either pay for the clean up or help with the clean up. Maybe both. But people are taking this too seriously, I thought art was a way of expressing oneself, how are we to judge if this is art or not, because maybe this is just the way he expresses himself.

I totally agree with you, whelan.

These days I have completely rethought non-conformity. How can some kid with a mohawk and a leather jacket with the same exact band names scribbled all over it as every other kid with a mohawk and leather jacket, be considered a non-conformist?

This guy is absolutely brilliant. Anyone who is criticising Graziano Cecchini's art, is blind.
Posted by: Dakota at January 20, 2008 8:38 PM
I suppose that he has a PhD in the arts in order to craft his talent.
Either that or he likes to play with his balls alot.

I think that it is awesome, so he adds a little bit of color to the world....people need to learn to smile I think this is fun!!

does anyone recall the sony add where someone did the exact same thing? this guy is a hack.

If anything he's succeeded in causing a stir and making people think about something, maybe not what he intended you to think about, but everyone needs a jar sometimes you know.
