Al Jazz, Moonbats Claim Hollywood Maligns Arabs
Since 9/11, Hollywood has conspicuously bent over backwards to avoid any portrayal of Arabs that could conceivably be deemed unflattering. Nonetheless, there are those so devoted to moonbattery that they consider themselves to the left even of Tinseltown. Untethered from reality, kooks like Matthew Duss manage to agree with al Jazeera propagandists that our movies oppress Arabs:
To support its claim that Arabs are "the most maligned group in the history of Hollywood," this five-minute film is forced to resort to clips from such blockbuster films as Cannonball Run II, Happy Hooker Goes to Washington, and Hell Squad. So far as I could tell, the most recent clips are from Aladdin and True Lies, both of which are fifteen years old. In the seven years since 9/11, with the nation embroiled in a global struggle in which America's most deadly and dedicated enemies tend to be, well, Arabic, Hollywood has turned out exactly one big-budget film featuring Arab villains: This fall's The Kingdom. If you want to expand the list to include art-house fare, you can throw in United 93, and if you count people trapped in a cycle of violence as "villains" you can tack on Steven Spielberg's Munich, in which audiences were invited to side with Israeli assassins against Palestinian terrorists but feel awfully conflicted about it. Meanwhile, even 24, ostensibly the most right-wing hour on television, features what Martha Bayles, writing in this season's Claremont Review of Books, terms a "timid selection of villains," including "vengeful Serbs, a bitchy German, red-handed Mexican drug lords, a turncoat British spy, a greedy oil executive, power-mad government officials (including one president), and — once in a blue moon, when the Council on American-Islamic Relations is looking the other way — violent jihadists."
Since it will be condemned by Arabs and their useful idiot allies no matter how obsequious its posture, Hollyweird may as well work up the nerve to portray America's enemies accurately. Surely there's someone in the film industry who hasn't embraced dhimmitude.

WE didn't do this to the Muslims, they did it to THEMSELVES!
Hey Hollywood, what's it like to "kiss the hand that beats you and lick the boot that kicks you"? (Paraphrased from "Sahara" 1943. Which had a Muslim on BOTH sides)

Anyone who read the Sum of All Fears, then saw the movie should be able to recognize the truly stupid victim game.
IT
IS
BORING

I'm not sure it oppresses them, as much as they sweep the issue under the rug entirely.
Who is free to stand up publicly for Muslims, in this environment?

I saw Serbian terrorist characters on the new bionic woman show recently too. (Don't ask - I don't know why I was watching it)
Anyway, Serb terrorists? Maybe the Serbs didn't like being bombed by Clinton, but as far as I know, there isn't a Serb terror problem in the US.
Unlike the Serbs, a handful of Kosovars ("ethnic Albanians") did get caught scheming terrorism in New Jersey recently...

"Who is free to stand up publicly for Muslims, in this environment?"
EVERYONE WHO CARES TO. Do you REALLY believe that there are lynch mobs out to "get" people who defend Muslims? The truth is that there are thousands of terrorised Liberals who are eager to take their side in anything they say and do becuase they are AFRAID that they will be accused of "islamophobia", or worse, of supporting PRESIDENT BUSH if they do not.
Why is it HASH, that in one post you write well and I enjoy your responces, then in another you will come off like you have NO CLUE as to what's going on in the world?

Because I'm not writing to cater to your whims, KHarn (or anyone else, for that matter).
Think back and remember history. Swarthy Muslim types were always underrepresented in movies, plays, etc., because they are generally unpleasant to the Western eye, and their accents, manners, and overemotional tirades are obnoxious and repellent to English-speaking ears.
And all of this was well prior to the OPEC oil crisis, the endless Arab conflicts with the Jews, the Iran hostage crisis, or even the manufactured phenomenon of "Islamofascism". The few visibly swarthy Muslim types we ever saw were in the old "Arabia" movies or plays and musicals like "The King and I", what I like to call the "exotics".
Growing up, I watched Danny and Marlo Thomas on television and loved them, never once realizing they were of Lebanese descent, or any other type of foreigner. And it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, for they were ASSIMILATED, and it never would have seemed to any of us that large numbers of such people coming into our lands would have affected us much.
But the real Muslims turned out NOT to be like Marlo Thomas, or Yul Brynner, or Omar Sharif, etc.
And they and other such unassimilationist foreigners are pouring into our lands en masse, and it is ridiculous for anyone to expect that we'd have the facility or the desire to cope with it.
I don't think it's a matter of the studios not portraying Muslims in favorable or unfavorable lights.
I think its a matter of recognizing that they, like we, don't know enough about these foreigners TO portray them believably, recognizing that we innately do not like these people, and realizing no one's going to fork over twelve hard-earned dollars to watch a bunch of crazed foreigners shriek, holler, and beat themselves over the heads for two straight hours.
You can be fair to them and still admit that they are personally repellent to us and don't want them commandeering our culture any more than we want them running us out of our own living spaces, no?

So, there's no such thing as Islamo-Fascism, but the US and the Saudis are evil for funding it.
Obviously, I never did enough drugs to understand leftism.

V the K,
These days American racists like David Duke are going to Islamic countries to 'defend Islam'.
They have a greater enemy that unites them...
THE JEWS
So dont be surprised at the strange alliances that form.

Oh, I see! Then you should bitch at the LIBERAL Hollywood and the rest of the "entertainment industry". THEY make the rules, not US.

Who is free to stand up publicly for Muslims, in this environment?
hashishfanatic, I'm sure the ACLU is constantly threatened against defending and even aggressively promoting Muslim rights and Islamic practices, in public areas, by gun-wielding, suicide-bombing Christofundamentalist terrorists.

Sample of link headlines about how supposed-to-be-secular Western society is rabidly standing up for Islam:

Still want to complain about the oh-so-prevalent anti-Muslim sentiment?
Posted by: BUUUUURRRRNING HOT at January 17, 2008 9:58 PM
Oh, I'm not saying there's an overabundance of anti-Muslim sentiment in ENTERTAINMENT.
I'm saying there's an overabundance, (and in some cases, rabid hatred) of anti-Muslim sentiment among Americans, particularly right-wingers, neoconservatives, and those of the Jewish faith.
And there are many who would speak up more vociferously on behalf of decent Muslims against the slander and the lies that do exist, not to mention the myth of "Islamofascism", but they are simply intimidated by the right-wing elements and conservatives who have no boundaries or common sense.
In fact, the only ones the neocons hate more than the Islamics are American liberals and leftists, and it's certainly not hard to see what the next step will be.
Posted by: hashfanatic at January 17, 2008 11:50 PM
Ah yes, I see. The rightwingers and Jews are preventing moderate Muslims from speaking out against the IslamofashionFAN myth...
Like in the Al-Anbar province where the Sunni tribes joined forces with the Americans to fight those Islamic fascists...
And the Kurds in the North...
The Kuwaitis in the South...
Or the adoring Albanians that cheered for President Bush...
...Yeah we are spending billions of dollars on Iraq because we hate Muslims. Thats it!!!! The only hate in evidence here is yours and the hatred of Islamic fascists.
Osama bin Laden already admitted his responsibility for 9/11 and he called the suicide attackers the "19 blessed ones".

That is the true face of hatred.
