A Coward's Less Than Triumphant Return

Posted by Dave Blount at December 4, 2007 7:35 AM

Don Imus has crawled on his belly back onto the airwaves. He has added blacks to his staff in a show of obeisance to Al Sharpton, and after nine months continues to whimper about how sorry he is for calling some black basketball players "nappy headed hos" — a totally unremarkable putdown in the context of a show that put down everyone. Yet he continues to market himself not as a loafer-licking, politically correct toady, but as an irreverent rebel. From his comeback opening monologue, via NewsBusters:

I will never say anything in my lifetime that will make any of these young women at Rutgers regret or feel foolish that they accepted my apology and forgave me. And no one else will say anything on my program that will make anybody think that I didn't deserve a second chance. […] But other than that, not much has changed. Dick Cheney is still a war criminal; Hillary Clinton is still Satan … and I'm back on the radio!

In other words, Imus will continue to throw rocks where it's safe to throw rocks. That even this coward publicly denounces the Vice President is a reminder of how far this country is from the fascist state moonbats would like to believe it is. Our politicians aren't Satan. But Al Sharpton might be.

Boldly taking on those he knows won't hurt him.
