The Moonbat Version of Burning Books
The Happy Endings Foundation is demonstrating against children's books that don't have happy endings by feeding Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events to some gerbils.
The destruction of the books can be seen live on the Internet via webcam. It ought to send a powerful message to the publishing industry.
When the Constitution is fed to gerbils, we'll know that moonbattery has triumphed.

On a tip from V the K.

Silly? Yes, but Moonbattery? I don't know...

The essence of moonbattery is a disconnect from reality, in this case, the fanatical objection to books with 'happy endings.' Moonbattery seeks to isolate itself in a cocoon of padded walls and zero consequences. When children are raised to believe in an entitlement to happy endings, they grow up to be moonbats.

Cindy Sheehag derailed by death of "house mate" - is she really a lesbian? Hadnt heard from her in awhile - I was hoping she was kidnapped by a Mexican drug gang or something.

Bumping off Sheehag's room-mate? So, that's what Karl Rove has been up to.

It's moonbattery in the sense that it is trying to force ridiculous change on the world. The Happy Endings Foundation is apparently trying to rewrite books with unhappy endings.
So, goodbye "All Quiet on the Western Front," goodbye "Hamlet," see you later, "Frankenstein," and a fond farewell to you, "One Hundred Years of Solitude." Your literary majesty and beauty can't make up for a sad ending.

Do they include books that make you ask "What the hell did I just read?" (Slaughterhouse 5, Catch 22)

Goodbye Harry Potter! After all, how can anyone claim that it has a completely happy ending when Dumbledore dies... And then J.K. Rowling reveals the real reason why the old queen has always been so enamored of Harry!

PS. Cruelty to animals! Forcing rats to ingest toxic ink and encouraging rampant deforestation offends the great mother gaia!

The HP world is a liberal greivance monger's wet dream. It has an intrusive government that uses various means of surpressing dissent and a history filled with oppression of Muggles and nonhuman magical folk. On a personal level, Harry sacrifices his own happiness with Hermione so that Ron would not deal with his insecruities. This despite the fact that Ron has shown himself to be a horrendous friend throughout the series, indicating that Harry's sacrifice was borne of cowardice than of good will.
Getting back on topic, I agree that this moonbattery because of illogical, emotion based approach. Rather than crticising the actual works for their perceved intellectual flaws, they decided to destroy them. They could have set fire to them, but I think that would have been a bit too obvious.
