Sarko Gets America
From French President Nicolas Sarkozy's recent speech to a joint session of Congress:
From the beginning, the American dream meant proving to all men and women throughout the world, that freedom, justice, human rights and democracy, were not an utopia, but quite the reverse — they where the most realistic policy there is, and the most likely to improve the lot and fate of each and every one. To the millions of men and women who came from every country in the world and with their own hands, their intelligence, and their hearts, built the greatest nation in the world, America did not say, come and everything will be given to you. Rather she said, come, and the only limits to what you will be able to achieve will be the limits of your own courage, your boldness, and your talent.
The America that we love throughout the world embodies this extraordinary ability to grant each and every person a second chance, another chance, because in America, failure is never the last world, there's always another chance. Here, in your country, on this soil, the humblest and most illustrious citizens alike, know that nothing is owed to them, and that everything has to be earned. That is what constitutes the moral value of America.
America did not teach men the idea of freedom. She taught them how to practice it. And America fought for this freedom whenever she felt it to be threatened or jeopardized. And it was by watching America grow that men and women understood that freedom and liberty were possible, and it is that that gives you a special responsibility. What made America great is her ability to transform her own dream, the American dream, into a source of hope for all of mankind.
In other words, America is the opposite of something-for-nothing, authoritarian moonbattery.

Hmmmmmmmm . . . Sarko sounds a lot like someone else, whose name escapes me at the moment. I do recall that his initials were "RWR," however.
Would that ANY Republican politician from 1988 until today sounded more like Sarko and less like a terrified (of Liberals) little wuss. Talk about refreshing!

This is amazing! Sarkozy sees and understands America in ways our own politicians do not! My respect for this Frenchman has soared.

The speech by Sarkosy was pretty interesting and inspiring. Except for his remarks about global warming. I just can’t get over how otherwise intelligent people get so taken in by that foolishness. It’s really dangerous. In light of Sarkosy’s remarks about America and liberty and the fundamental values of individual freedom to excel without undue limits, you would think that he would also see that it is the capitalistic values of America that are at the very basis of those liberties.
The fundamental idea behind those who want to use global warming hysteria to push their agenda is the stark opposite. They want to use that fear to impose their central economic control on the rest of the world. Watermelons: green on the outside and red inside. Capitalism, even with its faults, works and promotes individual achievement. Socialism has repeatedly failed. As Churchill pointed out, ours is the worst system of government except for all the others. or something like that.

People get sucked in by Global Warming hype because there is a tiny kernel of truth in the center of it. The Earth has warmed in the last 150 years... but then insanity takes over and logic goes out the window as the Al Gore Penguin Army takes over.

Great speech. The French should know better than anyone what happens when moonbats mistake American-style classical liberalism for a utopian fantasy - it ends in totalitarian madness like the Jacobin Reign of Terror.

This should be read and discussed in every grade school in America. The moonbats can't even complain, because it wasn'r said by an "eeeevil" Republican, American, or dead white male!
