New Zealand Bans Fat People
New Zealand offers some disturbing foreshadowing of where the combination of socialized medicine and state-imposed health consciousness may be taking us. People are being denied entry into the country for being overweight, and therefore a potential burden on the healthcare system.
Rowan Trezise of England has been unable to join her husband in New Zealand because bureauweenies deem her to be too fat. Her husband lost enough weight to please the officials and has been allowed in.
The authorities judge people using body mass index, which means comparing the ratio of your weight to your height. Since muscle weighs more than fat, athletes might be kept out of New Zealand too.
Like all countries, New Zealand has every right to determine who enters it. But we have a right to wonder, after fat people, who are the nanny-state Nazis going to demonize next?
On a tip from El Presidente.

This is illustrative of the sheer unrelenting cruelty of the "New Order", whatever you want to call them. They pretend to be caring, inclusive, opposed to discrimination, when the reality is they construct new "acceptable" discriminations and apply them with utter ruthlessness, dividing the world into those who must never be criticised, and those who must suffer every sanction and indignity.
There's vast amounts of hatred and prejudice on the Left, carefully supported with pseudo-scientific justifications and the inevitable, deeply flawed "social costs argument". Simply put- once you can demonstrate that somebody is a "social negative" (and with some application you can do that to any group) then no mistreatment is too extreme.
They are hateful people. As I've said before, in the past I identified with many left-wing ideals, naively believing them to be what they claimed to be. But I gradually abandoned them all as I realised that the Left, en masse, seek to create a society of the most gross cruelty and injustice, devoid of the most basic civil rights and, more importantly, human dignities.
I still believe, and will to my dying day, that everyone should strive to be unprejudiced in their everyday life. The Left, with their ever more hysterical campaigns of prejudice and their fundamentalist misanthropy, their routine division of humanity into sheep and goats, follow a foul creed that we must oppose at every opportunity.

Seems to be a violation of basic human rights, so an opportunity to put some bureaucrats on trail at The Hague.

She should just convert to Islam, then she'd get in.

I guess "obese" people are no longer on their "opressed persons" list.
Ian, once again I must agree with your eloquence. I have always thought that Liberals would make great IMPERIALISTS because thay are always insisting that dark-skinned people (and other "minorities") are incapable of fending for themselves and desperately need Liberal legislation and aid.

No no no... You have it wrong, Van Helsing. The Kiwis simply channel surfed and accidentally got The View. Upon seeing Rosie O'Donnell, they were so terrified of her toxic vileness that they hyetrically banned all fat people in the fear that one of them could be Rosie in disguise.

KHarn; if you look at the behaviour of "liberal" organisations and charities in the Third World, it is fundamentally imperialist. I increasingly think that modern "liberalism" is just very old-fashioned paternalism in new clothing. Whereas a conservative or libertarian would like to see Third World nations become First World nations- independent, free, affluent and in control of their own destinies, the transnat liberals seek to keep them poor and dependent and run as fiefdoms by those same liberal organisations, the UN etc.
There are lots of historical reasons for Third World poverty but in our enlightened times there is no reason those nations shouldn't become as wealthy and happy as the West. And if and when they do, it will be good for everybody. But the "liberals" as you say really I think don't believe that they can run their own affairs. THere's a profound conceit and arrogance that outsiders must run their countries for them
Ultimately, this modern liberalism, although sort of socialist, isn't working-class Marxist socialism. It's middle class elitist socialism (fascism effectively) that teaches that the masses must be governed by their own good by, yes... middle class liberals who know what is best for everybody else, be they dark of skin, or poor, or indeed anyone not Of The Elite.
They've no interest in people fending for themselves and making their own choices. What need is there for the Elite if people dare to do that?

I've said it for years; when people like Hillary get in power this is what you'll get along with national health care. Control over our lives. But remember, it's Bush that has "taken away our rights".

Bill, I think it's kind of interesting that the USA is lagging behind the world to a degree in the implementation of this lifestyle fascism since the driving force behind it is primarily American, (and British, I'm ashamed to say) academia. (Although there's a strong historical argument that the original wellspring was Germany. A good, though long and slightly ranty historical perspective by Murray Rothbard is here. Not a complete picture but a useful article nonetheless.
Ironically the US's strong Constitution, absent in the rest of the world, has helped protect you, or at least slow down your plunge into the progressive nightmare. Also, the US has a unique in the western world organised, vocal and committed conservative wing to counter the Left. Conservatism e.g. here in Britain was rather more moderate and less organised and has entirely crumbled under the progressive onslaught.
Nonetheless the US is at a crossroads now. If the next election falls to the Democrats, you're lost. But then you're perhaps lost already; as the posts on this blog demonstrate, the moonbats are gaining steady ground even with religious conservatives in the Whitehouse.
