Security Interrogates High School Students on Menstrual Status

From Sullivan County high school in Grahamsville, New York:

Samantha Martin, 14, said she had a small purse with her at Tri-Valley High School when security guard Mike Bunce called her out of class on Sept. 19. She said Bunce told her she couldn't have a purse unless she had her period and then asked her if she did.

You see, the district banned backpacks for security reasons. But apparently there is a menstruation exception, so that students can carry tampons as needed. It gets weirder:

In protest, some students began wearing tampons or sanitary napkins stuck to their clothing while others carried purses made of tampon boxes. Police arrested one student protester for running naked through school halls with a paper bag on his head.

Be thankful I don't have a picture for this one.

On a tip from Wiggins.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Schools shouldn't ban backpacks, or schools shouldn't allow girls to carry tampons, or girls should be allowed purses (only for tampons) but not actually policed as to whether they're carrying tampons, or...?

It's every citizen's right to bear arms, but not to bear things which may contain arms..?

It's indecent to discuss menstruation, even to enforce school rules..?

14 year olds shouldn't be allowed to menstruate..? 14 year olds should use a strip of absorbent cloth like their great grandmothers did...?

I have no idea what your point is.

Ian, I thought I'd leave this story to make its own point, which I interpreted as: authoritarian attempts to make everybody safe can result in absurdity.

Thanks for clearing that up Van Helsing :)

It is gloriously absurd.

You would post it, wouldn't you?

IAN;
The way I see it, book lockers were banned in many schools because they might have a GUN or DRUGS inside, so students had to carry ALL of their books back and forth from home in backpacks. This lead to kids with SORE BACKS so they banned backpacks as well. Now we have THIS bunch of snot.
Did somebody put STUPID PILLS in the water?
