San Francisco Liberals Fed Up with Bums

Even San Francisco liberals are getting sick of the stink generated by the sewer their policies are making of the city.

Whines South of Market resident David Kiely:

[W]e're not some white, yuppie parents saying we can't take this. […] But the other day Jenny [the moonbat's wife] is bringing the kids back from the park, and some guy is standing on the corner throwing up on himself.

Since the bum wasn't actually inside the building making a disgusting mess all over the stairs, Kiely's situation is a big improvement on what I was used to after 10 years in Manhattan. Nonetheless, he's had enough, and he's not alone. Says David Latterman, president of a local market research firm:

People have realized they can hate George Bush but still not want people crapping in their doorway.

Beware, moonbats! Objecting to crazed derelicts crapping in your doorway is the thin edge of the wedge. Next you'll be expecting people to work for a living. After that will come a belief in property rights — speaking of which:

Latterman points to the neighborhood uprising in the Haight when it was proposed that a needle exchange program be moved to the Hamilton Methodist Church. When some 200 residents showed up, mostly to protest the idea, it was shelved.
"One sample doesn't make a trend, but it is telling," says Latterman. "C'mon, they live in the upper Haight. They're liberal by definition."
But they are also, in many cases, homeowners and thus have a sense of ownership and emotional investment. That's another part of what has caused this sea change in thinking.

If San Franciscans don't nip this creeping sanity in the bud, one day they might find themselves siding with America against Islamic terrorists.

Comments

I read through the comments. A disturbing number of San Fransickos call the issue a "Federal problem," and demand that working people in other states have their taxes hiked to provide more services to the "homeless" so they will be spread out more equally around the country.

Screw that.

Also, from Swtizerland, Spoiled moonbats riot when they don't get their way.

When I worked in San Francisco (180 New Montgomery, 666 Folsom, 370 Third St, Rincon Annex) "SoMa" was mostly inexpensive housing, lots of poor folk were pretty much getting along.

But now it has been cleansed (I guess--I have not been there in years), full of brand-new low-cost housing (several thousand a month, I hear).

Lot of us were able to predict here San Francisco was headed.

"The Grapevine" segment on Hume's show ran with this one today. They even featured the "crapping in their doorway" quote.

An interesting, related comment from Pelosi on the issue of poor folks in her neighborhood, as opposed to SOMA, or anywhere else, for that matter:
"Look, I've had four or five months of people sitting outside my home, going into my garden in San Francisco and angering my neighbors, hanging their clothes from the trees, building all kinds of things," Pelosi said.

"You can just imagine my neighbors' reaction to all this. If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they would be arrested for loitering. But because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment ... So I'm well aware of the unhappiness of the base."

I did a 5 year stint (1990-1995)in SF at Golden Gate and Jones and believe me, nobody gets arrested for loitering, or most other criminal activities.

Nazi Pelosi is also fed-up with bums.

"Look," she said, the chicken breast on her plate untouched. "I had, for five months, people sitting outside my home, going into my garden in San Francisco, angering neighbors, hanging their clothes from trees, building all kinds of things -- Buddhas? I don't know what they were -- couches, sofas, chairs, permanent living facilities on my front sidewalk."
Unsmilingly, she continued: "If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they would be arrested for loitering, but because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment."

Has anyone calling San Francisco a hell hole actually been there recently? We have an extremely high standard of living. I go to top talent shows, eat at great restaurants and hit the wine country or the beach on the weekends.

There are a lot of 20 something hipsters, but I have yet to see a real hippy. The city is rich. Big time rich. Sure there are bums but all cities have bums. I saw far more bums in Dallas and Houston. And those downtowns are dead zones at night. Meanwhile, downtown San Francisco is actually full of money dripping tourists and quite livable.

I'm hardly liberal. I moved here because I want to make a lot of money. And guess what, I increased my income over 4 times in the past year from what I made in my home (red) rural state. This place has golden streets.

your opinion piece is lacking in so many ways it hard to know where to start... who are David Kiely and David Latterman? who said they're liberals. who beside them are saying there is a growing resistance to a percieved problem. are more san franciscans fed up with the bums or the atmosphere that creates them? and finally, why do allow people to advocate mass death on your site?

Thank god, another idiot moves out of a red state! enjoy hippy land retard.

I have lived in San Francisco for over 16 years.

San Francisco people work extremely hard, and worker productivity in the Bay Area is some of the highest in the world. So I assure you we work for a living here.

What you don't realize about San Francisco's homeless problem is that the homeless people in San Francisco are not from San Francisco. They come from all over the country, partly for the better weather, and partly because they expect to be treated better here.

They're not San Francisco's homeless: they're YOUR homeless, America.

Posted by: daltoni at October 10, 2007 6:38 PM

I should also mention, for those of you who are not familiar with San Francisco's homeless problem up close the way we San Franciscans are, that the homeless in San Francisco come in many varieties and levels of dysfunction.

The "hardcore homeless" in the South of America area near the tourists zones are the toughest cases. They tend to have severe health problems, mental health problems, and addictions.

In Haight-Ashbury, there's a fairly transient set of confused homeless young people from broken homes who stick around for a while thinking that it might be cool. They tend to leave after a few weeks.

In the Castro, and elsewhere in the city, there are a not a few gay teen-agers who have been kicked out by their families. They are just trying to survive, and it's not easy for them.

In the morning when I jog around Buena Vista Park, I sometimes stop to chat with a 60'ish man who is often sitting at a particular park bench. He holds it together pretty well. I believe he lives out of an old vehicle, and I suspect he's a veteran on disability.

Homelessness is not funny, y'all. Yes, some homeless is caused by personal, individual failure. But sometimes homelessness is a failure of the family, or of our country's safety nets.

Don't blame San Francisco. These people come here looking for help that they don't get elsewhere.

Yet one more reason that we Californians should have our own nation. You deal with your social problems with your revenues, and we will deal with our social problems with our revenues.

"If San Franciscans don't nip this creeping sanity in the bud, one day they might find themselves siding with America against Islamic terrorists."

Seriously? You just had to write something to prove how partisanship has rotted your brain, didn't you?

That is a stupid post.
