English Succumbs to Moonbattery

The objective of moonbattery is to eat away at the pillars of civilization so as to cause its collapse and bring about the degradation and eventual demise of the human race. One pillar that moonbats have gnawed down to a toothpick is education. Because moonbats are repelled by factual information, they started with the liberal arts. In English, they are triumphant.

Phyllis Schlafly describes the situation:

The bad news is that Shakespeare has disappeared from required courses in English departments at more than three-fourths of the top 25 U.S. universities, but the good news is that only 1.6 percent of America's 19 million undergraduates major in English, according to Department of Education figures. When I visit college campuses, students for years have been telling me that the English departments are the most radicalized of all departments, more so than sociology, psychology, anthropology, or even women's studies.[…]
Shakespeare, Chaucer and Milton have been replaced by living authors who toe the line of multicultural political correctness, i.e., view everything through the lens of race, gender and class based on the assumption that America is a discriminatory and unjust racist and patriarchal society.

Shakespeare has been dismissed as a DWEM (Dead White European Male). Having completely taken over English Departments around the country, moonbats are teaching a curriculum in line with their pernicious objectives. A few examples of what English students study instead of the Bard:

Macalester College   Gender and Sociopolitical Activism in 20th Century Feminist Utopias
Bates College   African and Diasporic Ecological Literature
Mount Holyoke College   The Conceptual Black Body in Twentieth-Century and Contemporary Visual Culture

Assigned readings include Dr. Seuss, J.K. Rowling, The Wizard of Oz, and Snow White. But American University does offer a course entitled "Shakesqueer," and Vanderbilt has one on "Shakespearean Sexuality."

When moonbats do to science and math what they have done to English, we will be ready to return to the Stone Age, to the delight of environmentalists.

Jack Moonbat Murtha is at it again, frothing at the mouth while doing his level best to assist the radical Islamo-Fascists.

I remember being forced to read Foucault in college back in the late 80s. That was bad enough in itself, but to make matters worse the professor was obviously an advocate of that filth. So it wasn't just an assignment to read something from a radical point of view, it was unadulterated anti-civilization advocacy.

That's about the time I started to get really disgusted with limo-lib moonbats.

Hopefully the wacademics in Britain cause a backlash by pushing this kind of crap too far. I'm not hopeful though, because by the time these kids get to school they've already been fed a relentless diet of moonbattery from the media, their leaders, and their parents etc.

There'll be no need for English once we're all either speaking Arabic or we're dead, if the moonbats have their way.

That is disgusting. I love Shakespeare, and I do think it's far important that people learn of his beautiful works than of the memoirs of rabid communists/ anarchists.

It's interesting, I was recently playing a computer game called 'Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich,' in which you play a team of superheroes who travel back in time to help fight the Axis Powers in World War II. In the level I recently beat, the heroes crash a Nazi book burning, and have to save three priceless historic books from being burned. One of the books you must save from the fire in that level is Shakespeare's first folio. Bet any far- left moonbats playing the game would be all for letting it get destroyed, or at least altering it so it seems to promote their deranged views.

I remember someone once trying to claim that Shakespeare was a muslim...

I majored in English at George Mason University, and I'll confirm that the department was overrun by the left. I went out of my way to study Shakespeare & "classical literature" such as Homer & Euripides. What my BA in English taught me to do is to lie, because I spent 4 years lying to feminists and radical gays in order to tell them exactly what they wanted to hear in order for me to get an A in their classes.

The Conceptual Black Body in Twentieth-Century and Contemporary Visual Culture

That doesn't sound so bad does it? You get to check out pictures of naked black chicks right?

Oh Alex, methinks it'll be chinese. And spanish as an alternative.

English classes were worthless. I was reading Shakespeare at age 8 and understanding it. Is why I gravitated toward the sciences. Much more challenging. Actually, my worst class was world history taught by a communist whose father was a captured Nazi. Oh, and he had an underwear fetish. My class put up with this nutcase until close to the semester's end. We ripped him a new bunghole when he expected us to worship at the feet of Marx. Very bad mistake on his part. ;-)
