Authoritarian Brainwashing at University of Delaware

From a press release put out yesterday by FIRE:

The University of Delaware subjects students in its residence halls to a shocking program of ideological reeducation that is referred to in the university's own materials as a "treatment" for students' incorrect attitudes and beliefs. The Orwellian program requires the approximately 7,000 students in Delaware's residence halls to adopt highly specific university-approved views on issues ranging from politics to race, sexuality, sociology, moral philosophy, and environmentalism. […]
The university's views are forced on students through a comprehensive manipulation of the residence hall environment, from mandatory training sessions to "sustainability" door decorations. Students living in the university's eight housing complexes are required to attend training sessions, floor meetings, and one-on-one meetings with their Resident Assistants (RAs). The RAs who facilitate these meetings have received their own intensive training from the university, including a "diversity facilitation training" session at which RAs were taught, among other things, that "[a] racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality."
The university suggests that at one-on-one sessions with students, RAs should ask intrusive personal questions such as "When did you discover your sexual identity?" Students who express discomfort with this type of questioning often meet with disapproval from their RAs, who write reports on these one-on-one sessions and deliver these reports to their superiors. One student identified in a write-up as an RA's "worst" one-on-one session was a young woman who stated that she was tired of having "diversity shoved down her throat."
According to the program's materials, the goal of the residence life education program is for students in the university's residence halls to achieve certain "competencies" that the university has decreed its students must develop in order to achieve the overall educational goal of "citizenship." These competencies include: "Students will recognize that systemic oppression exists in our society," "Students will recognize the benefits of dismantling systems of oppression," and "Students will be able to utilize their knowledge of sustainability to change their daily habits and consumer mentality."
At various points in the program, students are also pressured or even required to take actions that outwardly indicate their agreement with the university's ideology, regardless of their personal beliefs. Such actions include displaying specific door decorations, committing to reduce their ecological footprint by at least 20%, taking action by advocating for an "oppressed" social group, and taking action by advocating for a "sustainable world."
In the Office of Residence Life's internal materials, these programs are described using the harrowing language of ideological reeducation. In documents relating to the assessment of student learning, for example, the residence hall lesson plans are referred to as "treatments."

No wonder the Breck Girl wants every American to go to college, even those who can't afford it and/or don't really have a use for it. Increasingly the point of college is not to prepare people for careers, but to brainwash them into zombified moonbats who will embrace leftist totalitarianism, while stalling their introduction to adulthood for four or more years — if not indefinitely.

Another "treatment" University of Delaware educrats might like to try.

Saudi King gets an imperial welcome...

The army marching band that plays at official visits by foreign dignitaries played the Star Wars Imperial March when King Abdullah arrived. Someone has a wicked sense of humour... best part is, it can be explained as an "innocent" mix-up, because the music often played at such occasions is a piece by Edward Elgar, also called Imperial March.

Surreal, but funny.

For the University:

"If A harms B, with the excuse of helping C, A is a scoundrel." Ambrose Bierce

I read some of the "program's materials." I saw the word "holistic." That was a dead give-away. If you ever come across the word "holistic" in relation to education (or anything else for that matter) you know its lousy.

When I lived in a dorm at Texas Tech (1974) the only rule- written or otherwise - was no dope smoking in your rooms, (well... and picking up your towels from the shower room floor).

Our RA was too busy to futz with us - he had women to lay and beer to drink. AND he was on the rifle team.

I know that is the liberal definition of racism but I wouldn't have expected them to state it as openly as that. Usually there would be a layer of doublespeak.

I'm trying to remember: RAs received free room and board, is that correct? Some people will do anything for money.

I see re-education camps in our future.

Liberals have been screaming oppression and fashism for years and we have been telling them that they are "projecting". Well now we have PROOF!

" . . . a young woman who stated that she was tired of having 'diversity shoved down her throat.'"

My God! Actual independent thought on the campus of the University of Delaware -- stamp it out immediately! Burn the bitch at the stake, with the entire campus in attendance!

Looks like phil may be right: re-education camps are in all of our futures, unless we rid ourselves, forcibly if necessary, of the Moonbats (i.e., cockroaches, or Liberals -- same thing) who infest virtually every college campus in this nation.

If you have any kids now in high school, you've got to think that the decision on where he or she will go for a "higher education" may be the single most important decision you, and they, will ever make.

White males are being treated like Jews in Nazi Germany. It's only a small jump from the vicious bile in the literature to actually killing white males. Move to a carry state.

Anyone know if any of the students have sued the University for their breach of the 1st Amendment? This would seem to be a classic case of violating their freedom of association.

University Dumps Thought Reform Program

Even though it may have been publicly dumped, you can be sure there will be a variety of back-door methods via a campus culture of intimidation. I'm glad thefire.org has made links available so as to not miss riveting bits like this:

A section from "The Culture of White Supremacy" by Sharon Martinas;

"E. WHITE CULTURE IS A DEADLY BREW.

White culture in the United States is complex. Because white supremacy is fundamental to the existence of this country, white supremacist culture is intertwined with other major cultural manifestations that make up the fabric of the U.S: the greed, competition and individualism of capitalism; male supremacist fear and hatred of the power of women; historical Christianity’S hatred and fear of sexuality, and its compulsion to divide humankind into the “saved” and the “damned;” and militarism’s glorification of war and conquest as proofs of manhood and nationhood that has roots an European culture going back thousands of years.

White culture is a melting pot of greed, guys, guns and god. It is a deadly brew."

Did they miss any points? I didn't read anything about the CIA plot to introduce crack cocaine to South Central, or vaccine conspiracy theroies (though global warming is mentioned in other papers in the same program).

From para 3, same document;
"Imprisoning a person’s mind is more thorough and long—lasting than imprisoning her body."

They certainly would know.
