ACLU Trying to Ban Bowing Head During Prayer
The latest skirmish in the moonbat war on Christianity is taking place at East Brunswick High School in New Jersey, where school officials have declared that football coach Marcus Borden cannot so much as bow his head in reverence when his team prays.
Although totalitarian moonbats have not yet been able to take away the right of players to pray, coaches are alleged to be public officials not entitled to the freedom of religion guaranteed by the First Amendment. According to the ACLU of New Jersey, Borden's silent show of respect for God fosters a "destructive environment." This satanic organization has taken the case to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Wars have been fought over far less than what the ACLU is doing to this country.

On a tip from Bill.

I wonder also how they expect to enforce this. Is he allowed to nod? Close his eyes? Blink? If he's allowed to blink, how long for before he may be communing with the Almighty?
Also, I argue with "first they came for the christians". So far as I can see, first they came for the smokers, just to test out strategies and tactics on an easy target. Christians are second in line, with fat people ;)

So tugging on his ear or rubbing his nose to signal a play is okay but bowing his head to signal his Creator earns him a foul? This crapola is exactly why we NEED a revolution. I'm game. Don't want to live long enough to end up in a nursing home anyway. If only we can convince the over-fed sheeple of our country to get mad long enough to get off their duffs and take us care of business. (Am not holding my breath).

The overzealous enforcement of the separation of church and state that we have today is clearly not representative of the will of the founding fathers.
In the Declaration of Independence they made references to “Nature’s God” and the “Creator”. After becoming President Thomas Jefferson began attending regular church services in the House of Representatives. Even such a powerful advocate for the separation of church and state approved of the services because they were nondiscriminatory and voluntary.
As a matter of fact the founding fathers would be flabbergasted to know what has become of the separation of church and state. They were almost all Christian (if not all). When talking about the freedom of religion and their desire that the government refrain from establishing a national religion they were only thinking of Christian denominations. They barely (if ever) contemplated other religions like Buddhism, Islam or whatever. The belief in Christianity was absolute and they were talking about denominations like Quaker, Baptist, Methodists, etc… They couldn’t have anticipated the modern day anti-Christian hysteria.
Anyways, the Constitution clearly states;
“...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
And that…
The legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
Clearly Coach Borden’s right to freely exercise religion is being violated here. Anti-Christian activists will insist that as a public employee Borden should be denied this freedom, but his New Jersey high school does not require their football coaches to bow their heads as a qualification for the position and it does not prohibit anyone from any other religion to practice their own religious customs. Therefore it does not violate the Constitution in any way.
Basically activists have criminalized Christianity as much as possible.
As the article states; “Ed Barocas, legal director for the ACLU of New Jersey, said Mr. Borden has “initiated student prayer, he has encouraged student prayer, and he has participated in student prayer” — which has fostered a “destructive environment” for students of other faiths.”
Prayer before the school games is a 25-year tradition. This is not some Christian conspiracy or criminal act. And how can they justify the term “Destructive environment”? This is hysteria at its worst... A blatant appeal to irrational emotions. I have been an atheist ever since I can remember and cannot honestly say that such customs of the Christian majority are destructive.
I do not blame the school authorities for doing as the Supreme Court orders them to do. Instead I think this case shows how unconstitutional the actions of our Supreme Court can be.

They forgot one important thing, how will our Muslim overloards chop our heads off if we can't bow to them?

Something I find intriguing here is the argument that if he kneels, or bows his head, this may give the appearance of endorsement of the religion. Hmm. It can give the appearance of lots of things. It can give the appearance of just joining in, for instance, in a ritual.
For instance, if a jew or an atheist gives christmas presents, are they endorsing christianity? If a Jew or atheist attends a christian funeral and pays respect by bowing their head, singing hymns, etc, are they endorsing christianity? If this christian coach attends a Jewish, Muslim or Wiccan wedding, and joins in as part of the ritual, is he endorsing that religion and abandoning his own?
Or is he just being polite and joining in?
I think this is what the multicultural plague has cost us; the concept of just joining in. Nobody's allowed to just join in any more. When in Rome- well nowadays when in Rome you loudly shout that you're not the least bit Roman and you'll be offended by all the Romans doing Roman things, I guess.

Ian your point is taken, but keep in mind that the issue is public employees. So the giving of Christmas presents at work by a public employee technically would fall foul of Supreme Court rulings.

Randi Rhodes is mugged and they automatically blame the right? Last time I checked, walking around Manhattan at night isn't terribly safe for anyone ...

Good points, Ian...my husband had to wear a yarmulke at a bar mitzvah last year. Putting it on for the ceremony within the temple (a place of worship) was a sign of respect, not one of conversion. We certainly didn't lose any sleep over it!
The world gets crazier every day.

But do they have footbaths?

I'm with Ian from EUSSR on this. He is exactly right.
This group (aclu) needs to be graveyard dead asap. But there isn't anyone available to do the good and proper deed, so look for more of the same and if possible, even worse.
