Pharmaceutical Revelations at Democratic Underground

The Nutroots (i.e., the Democrat Party's edgy new base) consist of some sadly messed-up individuals. Don't take my word for it; the moonbats infesting Democratic Underground will tell you themselves. Some sample comments from a thread launched by the surprisingly insightful question, "Just Curious…How many DUers have started meds since becoming a member of the community??":

ativan-I tried zoloft but couldn't…cum
I love ATIVAN tis my drug of choice!!!!!!
ativan helps me maintain some normalcy
Just told my doc I won't take Effexor.
went on zoloft about a month into this admin. wish I was joking
Take from me, kid: Keep taking the meds. The alternative is way too messy. Keep seeing your doctor. Keep seeing your therapist.
Getting on Wellbutrin two years ago helped me a LOT.
IF THE ANTIDEPRESSANT YOU ARE ON DOESN"T DO THE TRICK (AFTER GIVING IT ENOUGH TIME TO WORK) ASK THE DOC TO TRY ANOTHER ONE: I went through several over 25 years, including Effexor XR, and the one that works very well FOR ME is lexapro.
Wellbutrin, just last week, in fact Today is Day 6.
Watch out for Effexor! It's effective, but it is addictive!!! Wyeth, the maker of Effexor, wants people to get hooked.

I wonder if Wyeth makes anything that works on paranoia.

Effexor has some of the worst side effect (brain-shivers, weight gain) of all of them, and also some of the worst withdrawal symptoms. […] I have tried to stop 8 times in the last 25 years…
This fucking EffexorXR is 100x worse than cocaine to stop. And, EffexorXR does not get you high.
There are some new, cutting edge SSRIs out there… I am also interested in some of the headway they are making in very targeted, low dose electro-shock therapy.
IMO, the people who aren't depressed aren't paying attention Or they're too dumb to figure out what is going on (or much smarter than I am, since everything just confuses me).
I was on Effexor XR for over two years. Went on them in 2004 after four years of Bush. I almost died trying to quit them. […] Having been off of all meds for over a year now, I realize that it's ok to be pissed off at what is happening in this country.
Effexor is what worked for me, but I'm off of it now because I'm broke. And I have no health insurance. It turned down the volume of my anxiety attacks to a manageable level[…] Unfortunately, it didn't save my marriage[…]

So that's why they're so keen on socialized medicine!

I have been on either Zanex or valium since 1987 All due to anxiety and panic attacks . However since the loss of jobs and not being able to find new work things have really gotten worse than ever , this on top of this admin and it's freakish dealings which affect just about everything one can think of just must have pushed me over the edge , plus the loss of my mother , who was my last contact to years gone by . I have been put on Lexapro too but this really screws me up big time even though I went through their determined adjustment period . I would rather not be on anything and just be able to function enough to get out of the apt and deal with what it left of my life which is very little . I don't like being under some drug corps control .

If they would just stop voting, I could almost feel sorry for this sorry crew. Almost.

Hat tip: DUmmie FUnnies.

So much for better living through chemistry.

Does liberalism cause these mental problems, or are people with other mentaldisorders naturally drawn to liberalism?

This jives with moonbats I've known. One of my sisters, though still of moonbat sentiments, was much worse before she went through therapy for acute depression. Before she went through therapy and started taking prosac she was a virulent leftist who considered anyone that disagreed with her politics to be evil or stupid. Since she knew me I was evil. Had to be. Since therapy however she's almost become a normal person.

My theory is that Leftist beliefs actually make people miserable. My sister, as a child, had big dreams of designing clothes as a career. She was very good at it and loved it. Later, as a teen and in college she turned into a Lefty and came to believe that doing things for your own happiness, like pursuing a career, is selfish and what you should do is work for everyone's happiness. In middle age she had to go through years of therapy before she could bring herself to ask herself: what do I need for my happiness? I think socialist altruism ruined her life. Leftist, socialist thinking is a sure prescription for unhappiness.

Have to agree with the posters above. Better than half of whom I've worked with in the health field all these years are lefties and the more "left" the more crazy and unhappy they are. All their meds and therapists were of little relief to them.

On the other hand, I've suffered from a form of depression and schizoid isolation most of my life, but have never resorted to meds or shrinks. Never fallen apart, imposed false self-guilt or had sudden mood changes. Having a decent relationship through Christ and common sense is the best remedy. Lefties are missing the Creator-dimension and certainly their sense is anything but reasonable, so it's no wonder they're confused and pulling out hair. This world is going to get much crazier very soon and these folks are only going to get nuttier.

Just strap them all to a table and give them electro - shock therapy and if that doesnt work, theres the old frontal lobotomy!

Hey, it worked in "One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest" or they could try the "Clockwork Orange" treatment... LOL!

Several years ago I took part in clinical trials that were testing the effect of an anti-psychotic when taken with an antidepressant, though i don't remember the name of either. Anyway for the duration of the trial I was taking this anti-depressant, and it made me vow that I would never let myself get in to a state where I needed such things. They generally work by replacing severe depression with mild depression and a sense of artificial euphoria. I remember one of the listed side-effects was paranoia; at the time it hit me hard. I thought everyone was out to get me.

The day they mixed it with the anti-psychotic was the worst. I turned in to a raving psychotic loon for a few hours. And apparently my reaction was entirely normal and expected... still, almost three grand in the bank, so it was probably worth it. If they were still doing those trials I might just do it again. :)

And for the record, a lot of anti-depressants also seem to have a strong relaxant effect on certain pelvic muscles...

Ahh, seroxat, that was it.

I have had episodes of depression in my life and never once resorted to any sort of medication, first because I didn't know what was happening and later because I knew exactly what it would to.

Agree with "fellowes" that keeping in step with God and rational thinking serve best, along with balanced diet and exercise.

However, my theory is that most dingbat moonbats are, in fact, still rebelling against their parents (regardless of their ages) and would never do what parents generally advise.

Also drugs and depression support their comfortable roles as "victim".

This provides a logical explanation for the illogical left.

I have long suspected the link between moonbattery and prescription drugs. Generally speaking, the crazier the moonbat, the higher the dosage. It's somewhat comforting to know this, since the alternative to this explanation as to why there are so many people today divorced from reality would be that we have an epidemic of insanity.

We all have our rough days, and occasionally feel the need to escape reality. That doesn't mean we look for a crutch like drugs.

As for me, when I feel the need to "escape from reality" I simply pick up a copy of the New York Times, or watch the CBS Evening News.

Yeah, have to agree DU...rebellion against the parental units, which in turn translates to big Daddy-rebellion.

It's refreshing to read that others have bum days and that some like Archonix have had their "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" experiences. I can hardly imagine that a thinking person could go through life without spiraling down the dark crevasses of the mind or even having a few suicidal moments. Call it growing pains or the gnawing sense of not having some very important answers about life, but...am glad I never resorted to the meds. The vivid dreams I get with Melatonin is about as high as I get, and believe me that's plenty damned trippy at times.

Kevin, you make a great point (and provide excellent anecdotal evidence) that indoctrination into the so-called values of the Left, typically in the late-high school and college years (Hell, you can't escape at least some exposure on any college campus anywhere in the world!), brings on this depression and malaise. Every day you're told the world is in trouble, all thanks to America, America stinks, America is the root of all evil in the world, capitalism will destroy the Earth (and Socialism wouldn't?), blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

All your friends are activists, to one degree or another, so you can't really escape the constant "doom & gloom" view of the world, especially of the USA. You know, you just KNOW, that the evil conservatives are constantly plotting how to rape the Earth to get the raw materials they need to keep "the machine" going, etc. Since you no longer believe in God, you'll now believe in anything (G.K. Chesterton), so it's no wonder that AGW has captured so many of these "lost souls," with it's ultra-religious aspects: Paradise lost, "original sin," a way to "salvation," and a chance to expiate all that "Guilt," with a capital "G." Just do what algore tells you to do, and you're saved! Plus, it shows you have "good intentions" (and we all know what road is thusly paved).

I feel for these drugged-up former hippies and their next-generation tune-in--turn-on--drop-outers (thanks, Timothy Leary), and now the Gen Y'ers and Z'ers. I fear for their sanity should another Republican be elected in '08, along with the House and Senate swinging back to the right. But, since the alternative is 8 years of Shrillary/Obama and a Democrat-controlled Congress, rapid Islamicization plus uncontrolled illegal immigration, I'm afraid their pathetic little lives pale in comparison to that level of terminal cancer on this country. So, if you're inclined that way anyway, may I recommend heroin, injected in large doses -- that should do the trick for you if the "wrong" side wins.
