Racism Causes Cancer
Until a recent study came out, I thought racial discrimination against blacks was as bogus a problem as the global warming hoax. Now we learn that not only is it real, it causes cancer.
Roto-Reuters reports:
The study, which followed 59,000 African-American women for six years, found that those who reported more incidents of racial discrimination had a higher risk of breast cancer.
The researchers were led by one Dr. Teletia R. Taylor. You'll never guess what university she's from. If you need a hint, it rhymes with coward. Taylor plans more studies, no doubt supported by government grants, "to uncover the reasons for the connection between racism and breast cancer."
Taylor's absurd research was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Maybe racial discrimination against blacks isn't real, but the soft bigotry of low expectations sure is.
On a tip from Bill.

OT: Lone moonbat declares war on the handshake.
Naturally, the Islamists and the public education system are already on her wavelength.

Common sense, coupled with deep introspection will lead you to the point that regardless what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton tells you, everything is not the White man's fault.
These two leaders(?) of the black society in this country have taught black people to blame everything on whitey.

Am sure some pertinent facts were deleted in this "study".
What was the average weight of the cancer patients vs. that of
healthy women? What % of women smoke, exercise and what diet are they following? Heredity also plays a part. Did the white man design black genes to go awry? We're good but not quite that good. Wait a minute...asian women don't have anywhere near the breast cancer rate of whites or blacks. Perhaps the orientals are behind all this cancer epidemic? Yeah, that must be it (eyes rolling).
Hello. Eating fritos/bon-bons etc., smoking crack and sitting on one's arse will increase chances of cancer. No mystery there.

The white man also gave them sickle cell anemia and ingrown facial hairs.

Sure, fellowes, blame the victim, you racist and sexist! I question the timing! (I always wanted to say that.) It's Bush and his Big Bon-Bon cronies who are responsible!

Hmm, all the breast-cancer sufferers were WOMEN. I submit the theory that it's SEXISM that causes breast cancer!
I'll take my 5 million dollar Federal study grant in small, unmarked bills, please.

It's all that breast-beating about racism that's done it.

Sexist! My double X chromosomes make that accusation udderly ridiculous. (Always wanted to write that).

Stress is a risk-factor for many diseases. Much stress is self-inflicted. People who are hypersensitive are naturally going to subject themselves to excess stress by dint of constantly being offended. They are also the people most likely to make complaints of racial harassment.
And as fellowes noted, African-American women frequently have a lot of other lifestyle factors as well.

I would advise against saying that racial discrimination isn't real, in part because of the reasons mention in this very post. I do think racial discrimination is real, but moonbats would have a problem with the fact that I would include those low expectations, segregation in the name of multiculturalism, and sending people to lousy schools as part of the problem. We also need to notice that both blacks and non-blacks have a problem: for example the Implicit Associations Test shows that both black and non-black Americans associate sad and negative things with persons of African descent. Of course, liberals love for blacks to have a poor view of themselves, because they can then profit off this victimhood.
I think we could blame the stress in that study on liberal opposition to school vouchers. This way, many blacks get a bad education and have poor skills. Then, blacks go through life feeling disadvantaged and never sure if they are experiencing discrimination because of their bad education or because they're black (or both). In addition, if anyone did hold a racist belief that blacks are stupid, this gets reinforced when they meet large numbers of black people who struggle just to read and write. So yes, I blame both racism and breast cancer on the Jesse Jacksons (Sr. and Jr.) who oppose school vouchers.

Sure racial discrimination is real. Very much so. But as "anon" noted, it's mostly internalized for the reasons anon gave. I don't give much credence to the "stress predisposes one to cancer" theory however.
Asian women and in particular Chinese women are highly stressed (and highly suicidal), yet breast cancer is much lower among them. Yet if they emigrate to a western society their risk increases. Diet and sedentary lifestyle are the biggest contributors. Stress is detrimental to the immune system, but no direct correlative has yet been established where cancer is concerned (despite Dr. Taylor's contention).

Here's another angle. Maybe there is somehow a link between skin pigmentation and breast cancer. That's not entirely impossible I suppose, but I'm just a layman.
And from there you can say that the darker a black person is the more likely they are to be discriminated against. I don't mean by white people necessarily. You might be surprised at the racism that exists among African Americans. Have you ever heard of the "brown paper bag" test? It's actually very interesting how people within the black community view race, class, and colorism.
But don't confuse cause and effect. Racial discrimination and cancer MIGHT both result from darker skin, but that's a far cry from saying one results from the other...IF it's even true about the link in the first place.
Also, is the racial discrimination within the black community even resulting in reported incidents? That doesn't seem likely either.
