"Evan Almighty" Banned by Muslims

The reportedly awful Tinseltown offering "Evan Almighty" turns the story of the Flood into a lame comedy featuring environmentalist preaching. Some might think this is in bad taste, most would probably regard it as moronic, but only Muslims would consider it reasonable to ban the movie.

Huffs Malaysian Secretary-General Maamor Osman:

The movie refers to the big flood during the time of Prophet Noah, but this has been turned into a comedy which is insulting to Islam.

Got that, Hollywood? No more mocking Christianity. Muslims don't like it.

Blasphemers should be punished by having to sit through it.

On a tip from Metalgarth.

Muslims actually issued a fatwa over the disgusting play "Corpus Christi", which featured a gay Jesus and apostles.

The AP article I read about this called the movie a "blockbuster." I guess the author hadn't seen the disastrous reviews and box office numbers.

But I love how everything is twisted by Muslims to somehow be about them. Quite narcissistic of them.

You'd be surprised to know (or maybe not) how many lukewarm "Christians" who consider themselves "good" because they tolerate just about everything flocked to this knucklehead flick. Of course the Lord is neither lame nor is He tolerant of bullshit.

I saw the movie and liked it. You just can't take these kinds of things too seriously for cryin' out loud! I knew it was going to be dopey and PC and Biblically incorrect going in. That aside it was fun and had some good family sentiments to it... As far as Muslim outcry - they don't need actual excuses to get upset, they just need to wake up in the morning.

If there were a movie that just showed a ham sandwich on the screen for an hour and a half Muslims would be outraged. Their position on any issue is as about as hard to predict as that guy/girl G's

My problem with this type of film, although light-hearted and family-oriented is that no one in Holy-weed would ever take a project to produce and film something that actually approaches what Genesis really has to say, and I don't mean what the Sunday school teacher has lectured or what "biblical" scholars have to say. Sure, some productions have been filmed but those bearly touch the surface.

Muslims do have and believe in much of Biblical history (Noah, the flood, Moses, etc.). They also have some interesting alterations, e.g. Jesus was a prophet who did not die on the cross.
So, technically they would believe that the film is mocking Islam and Muslim history, not just Christianity or Judaism. Gotta love the good ol' prophet stickyfingers, huh? Of course you must understand that THEIR version of Biblical events is the only correct one and the Christian/Jewish versions are messed up (never mind that Judaism and Christianity predate Islam).

I enjoyed the movie.
It's a far cry from the Genesis story, of course. You can't expect Hollywood to have everyone on earth drowned, can you?
There was a nice message to it, and the importance of family was emphasized, as well as doing "Acts of Random Kindness."
For Hollywood of today, it was pretty well done.
My two cents

There was a film out some time back called The Bible, which told the story of genesis from adam to abraham. Pretty good production values as I recall... they had a clever way of doing the long genealogies with silhouettes and overlapping voices.

"The Bible" was great- I enjoyed it even as a non- Christian teenager. The Sodom sequence was something else; it depicted the '80s, even though it was made in the '60s. Now, seeing that garbage in broad view hardly even phases folks. Very tragic.

Ho Hum, more outraged Muslims. So what elses is new?
