Retroactive Correctness

One of the scarier aspects of political correctness is that it is applied retroactively. Bad enough that our Founding Fathers are excoriated by moonbats for not conforming to 21st century liberal principles. Now people are being brought up on charges for acts that have been inflated into crimes by PC hysteria long after they were performed.

Charles Shifflett, former pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Culpeper, Virginia has been charged with assault "with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill." He committed these atrocious acts as headmaster of the Calvary Baptist Academy 17 years ago, when he punished a 10-year-old Laura Beth Scott for lying by spanking her behind with a ping-pong paddle. The paddling was so severe that it left red marks on her behind!

Other charges faced by Shifflett suggest that he actually might belong in jail. But if spanking a kid 17 years ago is a crime now, think what they might do to you sometime in the 2020s if they find out you didn't recycle your empty bottles last year.

spanking a child at that age IS the parental responsibility - i would have knocked him into the next millenium had it been one of mine, but, to complain about it all these years later? that is nuttery at its height. hopefully, he will countersue for stress damages. whatamess!

It probably has something to do with the statute of limitations. Other assault charges have probably passed their limit, so this major charge is all that can be levied.

BTW, as recent as 2000 I knew of kids still getting popped by their prinicples. I don't see how this would be any different.

we have corporal punishment in arkansas, however, the principal must call first. at nearly 15 and 16 - if i haven't done my job by then and they need a spanking, then so be it.
