Orioles' Rick Dempsey Incurs the Wrath of PC Witchfinder Rick Maese
The spontaneous expression of humor over the airwaves has all but been outlawed as the PC witch-burning craze rolls onward. Rick Dempsey has been with the Baltimore Orioles as a star player and a first base coach, and is now a broadcaster. He doesn't normally do commentary from the stadium, and probably never will again after interviewing outfielder Jay Gibbons' wife about the fundraiser she is promoting to fight domestic violence. Dempsey committed the cardinal sin of injecting levity into the conversation:
Laura, will this kind of help Jay in the domestic violence area? If he doesn't start getting a few more hits, you might grab him around the neck and rough him up a little bit. [Is] this money going to go to help him a little bit with maybe some of the hospital bills or something like that?
A lame joke, but a joke — and those are not permitted when the topic is a sacred victim group like battered wives. Of course Dempsey apologized, but that's not good enough for Rick Maese of the Baltimore Sun. After acknowledging that "Dempsey's contrition sounds sincere," Witchfinder Maese righteously proclaims:
But this isn't the type of issue that just disappears with an "I'm sorry."
He's right. The two words that should make the issue of humorless PC totalitarianism disappear are "Lighten up."

On a tip from Wiggins.

World Series MVP, great player and coach for many years, loyal Baltimore denizen and promoter -- all of no significance when the Thought Police come looking for you.
Not only does this jerk Maese have zero sense of humor (and the joke was on the husband, Jay Gibbons, not his wife or any other poor "battered" woman -- all men are predators, don't you know?), he appears to have the requisite leftist wish to control EVERYBODY and everything they think and say. Hence, anybody with any amount of gray matter approaching the size of a human brain should ignore this dolt and everything he writes from this day forward.
