Tommy Thompson Apologizes For Accusing Jews of Earning Money

Shot-in-a-billion presidential candidate Tommy Thompson has taken ethnic hypersensitivity neurosis beyond parody by apologizing to Jews for suggesting they earn money.
The bar is so low now, this counts as a controversial remark:
I'm in the private sector and for the first time in my life I'm earning money. You know that's sort of part of the Jewish tradition and I do not find anything wrong with that.
If he doesn't find anything wrong with it, then why is he apologizing? Though Thompson's a Republican, he seems to have bought into the liberal belief that earning money — as opposed to having the government steal it for you — is somehow morally wrong. Here's Thompson spokesman Tony Jewell groveling on his boss' behalf:
Governor Thompson recognizes he misspoke in his remarks to the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and is very apologetic, especially given his strong relationship with the Jewish community blah blah blah…
Maybe sniveling apologies have become a national reflex. Apology or no apology, it's a good thing Thompson doesn't host a talk show, or he would probably be out of work.

On a tip from Wiggins.
