Michael Moore Exploits 9/11 Responders

The liberal myth that healthcare in the hand-to-mouth hellhole communism has made of Cuba is superior to America's will be getting a boost in Michael Moore's next assault on America, a film aptly entitled Sicko.

While it is true that healthcare for foreigners with hard currency is much better than the third-world medical conditions faced by native Cubans, Castro himself has been relying on Spain for his medical care since he began camping out on death's door.

Ever striving to achieve new lows, Michael Moore sent sick 9/11 responders to Cuba for treatment, in a stunt meant to assure gullible Kool-Aid–guzzlers that you can get better medical care in Havana than you can in New York.

Responders were offered a two-week trip to Cuba to avail themselves of allegedly new techniques for treating the sort of respiratory problems they developed at Ground Zero — at the price of being used as pawns in Moore's anti-American propaganda film.

This price was too high for some. Says Jeff Endean, a former SWAT commander with lung problems who spent a month at Ground Zero:

He's using people that are in a bad situation and that's wrong, that's morally wrong.

Says ironworker Joe Picurro, who received an offer from Moore:

I would rather die in America than go to Cuba. I just laughed. I couldn't do it.

Disabled medic Michael McCormack ill-advisedly took Moore up on his offer, but after an on-camera interview, Moore took off to Cuba without him. As McCormack explains:

What he [Moore] wanted to do is shove it up George W's rear end that 9/11 heroes had to go to a communist country to get adequate health care.

In addition to disseminating this preposterous lie, Moore wants to do something else: deconsecrate Ground Zero, so that it can no longer serve as a rallying point for patriotic impulses. Those who took part in rescue efforts there performed a sacred task. Therefore, they must be portrayed as victims of America, for the same reason the media obsesses on Pat Tillman having been killed by friendly fire. The Left cannot allow us to have national heroes, or we might develop enough self-respect to scrape liberalism off of our culture.
