Following the Money in the Global Warming Hoax
Moonbat activists, bureaucrats, and Supreme Court Justices have a powerful ally in their crusade to cripple our economy in the name of the global warming hoax: unscrupulous businesses that will stoop to any low to gain a competitive advantage. A case in point is Entergy Corporation, which backed the case leading to the Supremes' recent outrageous ruling that CO2 — i.e., our very breath — is a pollutant that must be regulated.
Why would a energy company want energy companies to have their kneecaps shattered by EPA bureauweenies? To destroy competition. Entergy is our second-largest generator of nuclear power, a position that is secure because envirowacko regulations have prevented any new plants from opening for the last 30 years. Nuclear plants don't produce CO2; competing coal plants do.
A cap-and-trade scheme would not only batter competitors, it would force them to buy carbon credits. Entergy recently announced it had purchased 100,000 metric tons of these credits, which are worthless except as a public relations ploy — for now. Thanks to the Supremes' shockingly irresponsible ruling, they might soon be worth a fortune.
Entergy is also in the business of selling "green power" — significantly more expensive energy generated by inefficient but politically correct means like windmills and solar panels. With enough government regulation, consumers may be forced to pay for it.
No wonder Entergy's stock jumped to a record high when the Supremes' daffy decision was announced.

OT: But, Ya Gotta Love This.
Michigan is enduring a one-state recession, with an unemployment rate near 8% (14% in Detroit) and businesses being driven out by ridiculously high taxes and the virtual control of the state by antagonistic unions. It is facing a $1 billion budget deficit.
So, what do the moonbat legislators and the Canadian-born, Berkeley-educated idiot governor prescribe as a solution? Free iPods for Every Schoolkid!
Apparently, this is not a joke.

For more of these kind of shenanigans read The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Enviornmentalism. Chapter nine, The Big Money of Climate Alarmism, is a must read.

Feed me a burrito and in an hour I'll cut loose a real pollutant.

dayam! we've got entergy and have never paid lower electricity bills in our lives...what gives? they've even passed savings back to us a few years ago.
we have a cabin not far from here we go to every six to eight weeks and the average bill is $12.00 per month with a freezer, a refrigerator and a couple of lights that run 24/7 - who's getting the kickback?
should we be wanting to pay more?

There's a good argument to be made for nuke electricity without enlisting the Gummint's power to ruin the competition.
But then, the record of the Fortune 50 in manipulating Congress and regulators to help the Fortune 50 (see, e.g., GE's manipulation of the 2003/4 tax measures) is crystal clear.
Rent-seeking is not new.

Ah, my former employer! I always WAS fond of their "deathstar" logo.
"green" is an advertising ploy, quite useful these days. Of course, anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows that the amount of "green" power input into the grid is finite, and if you pay for it, all that means is that some other non-treehugger is buying that nasty ol' fossil-fueled or nuclear stuff, generally at a discount...

What I want to know is, how do they make sure that you only get the electrons from renewable energy sources when you buy them? If they've managed to find a wayof determinig the quantum state of an electron for filtering puposes they don't need a government subsidy.
