Euromoonbats Ban Dog Breeds
The sanctimonious bureauweenies running the European Union have gotten so carried away with their intrusive regulations that they are now effectively banning breeds of dogs.
The European Convention on the Protection of Pet Animals act would set such severe limits on breeding that when it is ratified, it could mean the end of several popular breeds. The bulldog, once emblematic of British toughness, will be a symbol of Britain's decline when it ceases to exist at the behest of the limp-wristed moonbats in Brussels.
Bureaucrats now see fit to set precise limits on characteristics such as the length of the dog's back relative to its legs, etc. The requirements are insanely particular, yet vague enough that dog breeders won't know for sure exactly what is being banned until they find themselves arrested for breeding politically incorrect dogs.
Siamese and Persian cats could also find themselves banned. If only a means could be found to prevent the breeding of moonbat bureaucrats.

On a tip from Anthony.

Incredible, isn't it, what bureaucracy will do for the world? These little weenies, with not enough to do in their three-hour workday, have to find something (anything!) to regulate (they have to demonstrate that they are powerful, and "in charge," else why should they be drawing a salary on the public dole?), so they decide to pick on DOGS and CATS!
Next, of course, will be how many miles/kilometers you are allowed to drive in a day/week/month/year; what color clothes you are permitted to wear, and on what days; how much water you are allowed to consume in a given period; whether scratching an itch with your left hand or your right hand will be permitted, or prohibited upon loss of the offending limb or even pain of death . . .

While I am no fan of Guvverment power, I have to admit that some breeds of dogs would be better culled from the gene pool. Some are prone to health problems brought on by the very features that breeders encourage. Others are notorious for attacking humans without warning. I'm not going to mention any names, lest I invite angry letters from owner breeders who insist that THEIR little fluffy would never savage a child, and his breathing problems have nothing to do with the shape of his face.

Ah, so...
The EU has screwed the pooch.
Disgusting.

Paul Moore has a point, however, having an unelected bureaucracy make such decisions is not the best of ideas. This is definitely the tip of the iceberg as far as what Europeans will and will not be allowed to do.

Paul, with all due respect, your point is ludicrous. There are no inherently BAD breeds of dogs. Dogs are like kids: if you raise them sh#tty, they turn out sh#tty.
My aunt had a pit bull named Jessie, one of the sweetest dogs I knew. She had the dog obedience trained, and kids could pull the dog's ears, take her bones and chew toys, etc., with no aggression. She took the time to raise the dog properly, and to let the dog know its boundaries of acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
I've known people with Rottweilers, pit bulls, dobermans, German shepherds, etc., and their dogs were fine. I've also known people with chihuahuas, golden retrievers, Afghans, Irish setters, etc., and their dogs were aggressive. It's all how you raise them.
If people made the same stereotyped statements about groups of people ("Blacks steal hubcaps", "Mexicans live in trailers", etc.) as they make about breeds of dogs ("Pit bulls snap and turn on you at the drop of a hat", "chows will bite you for no reason", etc.), folks would howl in condemnation. But for some reason, ignorant statements about specific breeds of dogs are a lot more tolerable and accepted than ignorant statements about specific ethnicities of people.

I agree in principle that inbreeding is a serious problem. But I don't think this is a place where we want the government to be.
Sooner or later, we gotta stop relying on government to "solve" problems for us that we are capable of managing on our own.

Bad Jimbo! No ice cream for you!

There was a time when I would have agreed that there are no bad breeds, only bad owners. Then I bought a Malemute. Two dead neighborhood pets and one lawsuit later I had the dog put down. Check the numbers. There are exceptions, but some breeds are more likely to hurt you, just as some are more likely to have hip problems, breathing difficulties, or nervous disorders.
Not that I would want Big Brother in charge, that's a job for breeders and kennel clubs.

Well I'm glad that all the other problems of the world have been solved so that the U.N. can now concentrate on matters like this.
