New York Schools to Start Monitoring Weight

Offering a taste of what his constituents have let themselves in for by electing him, Governor Eliot Spitzer has announced that New York will be the "healthiest state." This will be accomplished in part by requiring that body mass index be monitored in schools.

The objective is "shifting focus to the prevention of disease," according to Spitzer. You're not against the prevention of disease, are you? Good, then you won't mind your taxes shooting up to pay educrats to keep track of how much your kids weigh.

So far there are no plans in New York to install two-way telescreens in all homes to ensure that citizens perform morning calisthenics.

they've been doing this for quite some time and our daughter, who is a beautiful 5'4 1/2" and weighs 122# came home and told me she needed to go on a diet - a challenge from the coach to all the kids in gym class, i took her out for an after school snack - milkshake and some fries!

i'll not have anyone but my husband and myself dictate any eating habits or weight issues in our household. incidentally, she was at 18% bmi when the test was done.

there are many overweight children out there and rather than someone point it out to them, they must point it out to the entire class. someone needs to put down the fork, but it's not my children.

wasn't it just ten years ago that schools and polotitions were concerned that children were NOT eating enough? That's when they started offering BREAKFASTS in many schools.

One can bet that the educrats will be as succesful at controlling students weight as they have been at imparting reading and math skills to their charges.

granted this is a stupid idea, but to say that this is a taste of what nyers are getting by electing spitzer is uninformed nonsense. after 24 years of george pataki and mario cuomo we finally have a governor trying to reign in out of control spending, taking on big unions and their shills in the state legislature, demanding standards for political appointments rather than cronyism and actually doing his job by trying to represent the people who elected him rather than special interest groups. i've lived here all my life and though he's just getting started he's already the best governor we've had. just because the guy is a democrat doesn't make him a moonbat, and while this sort of nanny state stuff is a waste of time he's getting the bigger issues right. we need more politicians like him regardless of party affiliation.
