British Diplomat Craig Murray Sides With Iran

At least moonbats are reliable: you can always count on them to side with the enemy. This tendency is particularly pronounced in diplomatic bureauweenies, like former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Craig Murray — who has come down firmly on the side of the hostile Iranian regime that has kidnapped 15 British marines.

Here's how Murray excuses the ayatollahs' bad behavior:

For the Royal Navy, to be interdicting shipping within the twelve mile limit of territorial seas in a region they know full well is subject to maritime boundary dispute, is unnecessarily provocative.

Murray used to head the Foreign Offices maritime section, which carries out negotiations on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. My guess is that the UK did not come out on top in these negotiations. Imagine going to court with your own lawyer on the other guy's side. Also on his resume is a stint as head of Britain's Embargo Surveillance Centre, which watched as Saddam made a mockery of sanctions.

Murray further opined:

The Iranians can feel content that they have demonstrated the ability to exercise effective sovereignty over the waters they claim.

If Murray isn't on the terrorist mullahs' payroll, he ought to be.

So all maritime patrols should be banned from disputed waters? The peacefull nations might agree to that, but will IRAN? (Even if they do, it would open the coast up to piracy)

I wouldn't be surprised that he followed this statement up with a tirade against the United States for arresting illeagal aliens.

Murray is a fool. He is supporting Iran while Iran is killing British soldiers.

Brilliant!

Sounds like a fair point to make to me. Here's what he says on his website:

"The Iran/Iraq maritime boundary shown on the British government map does not exist. It has been drawn up by the British Government. Only Iraq and Iran can agree their bilateral boundary, and they never have done this in the Gulf,..."

"None of which changes the fact that the Iranians, having made their point, should have handed back the captives immediately. I pray they do so before this thing spirals out of control. But by producing a fake map of the Iran/Iraq boundary, notably unfavourable to Iran, we can only harden the Iranian position."

We know Iran is an irrational provocative state so why did this partol risk activities in a disputed waters without being ready to resists arrest?

But given this happened why does Tony Blair say there is absolutely no uncertainty in the juristiction of the waters where the incident happened and Murray says these are disputed waters. Either they are or they aren't disputed. Without someone authoritative to tell me I would have to admit that I would suspect that the maritime border between Iran/Iraq is highly unlikely to be clear after so many years of war in that region.

[ Of course we all agree the arrest and the other things they are doing with the British Navy personnel is completely unnacceptable and irresponsible, whether it is legal or not. ]
