In the 2000 Census there were 16,465,185 black males.

In the 1990 Census there were 13,871,001 black males.

The male black population increased by over 2.5 million in 10 years. I highly doubt that a state senator is unaware of the population growth of her voters.

In any case, I agree that there is (and always has been) a serious problem of violence among poor males and we should do as much as possible to help them. HOWEVER, I AM ALWAYS WEARY OF POPULIST FIGURES WHO ESPOUSE RADICAL RACIAL THEORIES THAT HAVE NO BASIS IN FACT.
