Scientologists Resort to Fred Phelps Tactics

Borrowing tactics from the bizarre cult that calls itself the Westboro Baptist Church, Scientologists chose the day of James Alenson's funeral to stage a protest against the psychiatric drugs prescribed to John Odgren, a teenager with a form of autism who is suspected of stabbing Alenson to death.

The Church of Scientology disapproves of the medications used to treat psychiatric disorders, possibly because they might cure people of being nutty enough to become Scientologists.

Locals didn't take kindly to the protests. One passing motorist yelled at the kooks:

Have you ever seen a schizophrenic off his drugs? Obviously not.

But they have if they watch Oprah:

Tom Cruise, the Christ of Scientology.

You know, I hadn't really seen the madness of King Tom in Oprah until very recently. I was terrified at how accurate the parody of it in that scary movie film really was...

After seeing what they have done to Tom Cruise, I rather suspect that we will see more of this to come as this gains popularity with Hollywierd elites.

I see where Tom's "church" says that Tom will be regarded
as a type of "christ" for all the publicity he gives Scientology.
Well, the real Christ DID say there would be many calling themselves "christ" and "christians" and to watch out for them...

I’m writing you to ask for your help. This story, based on a “report” by one of England’s worst tabloids “The Sun”, is 100% false. It is also harmful, libelous and foments incorrect notions about my religion Scientology so as to cause strife and intolerance. I need your help to set the record straight.

In actual fact, nobody within the Church of Scientology considers themselves to be “Christ-like” – this would be a very inappropriate and arrogant comment and I’m sure you can see how this is being used only to antagonize Christians everywhere.

We Scientologists appreciate Tom Cruise’s efforts as a spokesperson of many of our Church’s initiatives. But he’s just an actor, holds no rank within our Church, and is by NO MEANS a “prophet” – and I am certain he himself would be embarrassed at the thought.

I hope you can help me in setting the record straight. The “Sun” is lying. Please get in touch with the Church’s Media Relations department, at http://www.scientologytoday.org/Contacts/index.htm

Thank you.

Best,
Greg Churilov,
Scientology Parishioners League

Incidentally, comparing the activism of the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights (www.cchr.org) to the repugnant homophobic rants of Fred Phelps is sadistic, cynical and plain wrong.

The CCHR is exposing Big Pharma's abuse of people with mental problems. It is a worthy cause. Look it up.

Sincerely,
Greg
Scientologist and proud of it

Well Greg, I for one have no sympathy for your false philosophy/religion. You reap what you sow. Your religion and its adherents, regardless of whomever they are, are all anti-christs. Those who do not profess Christ are antichrist... period...(1 John 22, 2 John 1-7, 1 John 4:3, 1 John 2:18 and others)

Therefore, it's fitting that a false religion should be slandered by a false media. It's about time.

I find this extraordinarily deplorable and disrespectful to all Christian and Scientologist alike. What was the point of such vulgar?

not to mention he's considered to be the false christ as far as the alien nutz go:

i was going to do a rant on this, but haven't had the time - i've been elected queen of our community.

google "false christs". nasty business.

Well Greg, once those nasty invisible space spiders have been cleared out of your system I can only hope you find your peace.

It's all a plot by the evil galactic Lord Xenu, isn't it Greg?

By the way, Battlefield Earth sucked chunks.

And just for the record, I'm by no means a fan of medicating children. When my foster son came to live with me, he had four prescription psychoactive medications, including Adderall, Risperidol and a couple of others. (Spending the first five years of your life homeless, and the next five shuffling between 22 foster homes can screw you up well and good.) I immediately cut those down to 1, Strattera, and then eliminated the one.

When his middle school threatened to send him to a "special needs" school unless I put him back on medication, I pulled him out of the system and started home-schooling him.

I don't think you have to be a member of a money-grubbing, lawyered-up, bullying Hollywood mindf**k cult to see that kids are over-medicated. But protesting the day of a funeral just to get media attention is vomitile.

Posted by: V the K at January 27, 2007 7:29 AM

Greg, I think you missed the point.

The uproar is about CCHR running their advertising campaign at a funeral. Don't you find this the least bit disrespectful to the grieving friends and family? they did EXACTLY what Fred Phelps does: take over a funeral for their soapbox.

Perhaps the CCHR department of the corporation of scientology has a few valid points regarding overprescribing of psychotropic drugs for the enrichment of pharmaceutical companies with significant disregard for the wellbeing of children and other patients. There are more appropriate venues for them to promote their agenda. I agree more with portions of CCHR agenda (overprescribing) than with Phelps agenda. I deplore the identical tactics equally.

I tend to disregard all posts, rants, and testimonies by anyone connected with that whacked out cult.

As far as I'm concerned, their fruitcake, made up "religion" should be exposed for what it is, and every weird story about them should be published as much as possible.

When a group like that starts gaining influence, people should know who and what they are. Odd that they like to keep their true beliefs so secret. Odder still that people would actually believe it, join it, pay money into it...and ADMIT all of the above!
