Connecting Dots on the Minimum Wage Exception for American Samoa

Posted by Dave Blount at January 12, 2007 8:24 AM

Nancy Pelosi's enthusiasm for a minimum wage hike stops at the shores of American Samoa. Other US territories and possessions will be affected, but not this one. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) couldn't figure out why. On the House floor, he asked if American Samoa was also going to be excluded from stem cell research, but was stifled by the clownish Barney Frank.

Why the exception? Fox and Friends connects the dots for us:

Star Kist tuna employs 75% of the island's workforce. Star Kist is owned by the massive food conglomerate Del Monte. Del Monte is based in Pelosi's home district in San Francisco.

Now do you get it, Rep. McHenry?
