California May Ban Spanking
It's a good thing we've got the government to raise our kids for us, because before long we won't be allowed to do it ourselves. Once again on the cutting edge of intrusive moonbattery, California's state legislature may outlaw spanking.
Resorting to the cartoonish hyperbole we've come to expect of nanny state totalitarians, Democrat Assemblywoman Sally Lieber of Mountain View gasps:
I think it's pretty hard to argue you need to beat a child 3 years old or younger. Is it OK to whip a 1-year-old or a 6-month-old or a newborn?
Presumably there are already laws against taking a bullwhip to little babies, although vacuuming their brains out and then crushing their skulls is okay. Swats on the fanny to discourage poor behavior are legal too, but apparently not for long. If the bill passes, a smack on the derrière could land mom or dad in jail for a year.
Argues Thomas Nazario of University of San Francisco Law School:
Why do we allow parents to hit a little child and not someone their own size?
The law might seem crazy, but from Dems' perspective, the reasoning is sound. The less spanking, the more spoiled children. The more spoiled children, the more spoiled children who never grow up. The more spoiled children who never grow up, the more votes for Democrats like the ones choking California's legislature.

On a tip from Conan.

How does this affect the BDSM crowd?

Poor California; once the Golden State, now the symbol of American social decay.

I started watching people who rear their children without correcting them years ago and alway told people there was a future prison inmate. I have been right in several cases. They were spoiled brats, now they're prison inmates.

Scrapiron, go to your room until you realize why you are being sent to your room.

So I guess turning a 3 year old's life upside-down by sending Mommy or Daddy away to jail for a year wouldn't inflict as much mental or emotional damage as a smack on the hand or backside would. Libs have it all figured out, don't they?

A quick slap on the heiney just gets their attention and deters them from bad behaviour. It gives no long-term damage. It is not child abuse. Letting kids grow up as spoiled brats without discipline is child abuse.
But, hey, don't trust parents to know when to use restraint. Because of the 1 in 10,000 that's an abuser, the other 9,999 have to suffer. It's the left-wing way. It's the way of Hillary's Village.

Does this mean you can't spank for ANY reason? What if you catch them eating an oreo cookie or trans fat?

like i told my own when they were younger and they would say to me "mom, you know they told us at school YOU could go to jail if you spank us?"
i would take the phone, hand it to them along with the number to 911 and BEG them to call the sheriff - i needed a break every now and then - seems it came around right about the same time they needed an arsewhuppin'!
of course, i'd also enlighten them to what foster care was all about - that, or they'd have to go with one set of grandparents or the other - well, it didn't take too many times of that...ratz - i never did get that two or three week vacation, three squares, cable tele, no worries...one of these days...
in all honestly, i'm better for the spankings i received and my children are ten times better off than i having NOT needed the spankings i received - if that makes any sense at all.

Now doesn't the threat, "I'm gonna scoop out your cranial cavity with a rusty spoon if you're bad" seems like a better choice of discipline vs. whacking the gluteus maximus? Late-term murder will become all the rage, since it's legit.
btw, did anyone else get the idea that the film "Starship troopers"
(the film where the alien sucked out the brain of its victims) was actually a not so subtle protest against late-term abortions? It seemed rather clear to me.

The key to good discipline is moderation and reason. You only have to do it a few times to get their attention and, as long as you explain why you're doing it, and as long as you don't do it in the heat of anger, then after that they'll be well behaved. But I guess many people, especially those on the left, don't understand the concept of moderation. In their world, if you're going to do anything then presumably you'll be doing it all the time with no regard for the feelings of others. Disicpline that follows the logic of the left would be damaging. Who needs to use a whip? If you discipline your children properly early in life then you won't need to discipline them later.

And Arizona may ban the Minutemen. Moonbat Arizona Legislator and ACLU to present bill labeling Minutemen "Domestic Terrorists".

One frustrating thing about this is that spanking will now be political. I know conservatives and liberals who spank, and I know conservatives and liberals who don't spank. But now that California had to get involved, conservatives will be labeled as the evil spankers and liberals as the "moral" non-spankers.
Great.

shouldn't we start by banning smoking near children?
