Another Small Triumph For Big Government
Intrusive government causes countless small tragedies that add up to the massive disaster of the slow death by strangulation of the American dream. One example is the FS gas station run by Joey Crawford in Mansfield, Illinois.
Being the only full-service gas station in the village, it was particularly appreciated by the town's elderly residents, especially ladies and those with disabilities. Reminisces the 23-year-old Crawford:
They would talk to me about their days and their lives, and I could tell they appreciated what I did for them. Some of my regular customers came from out of town because there aren't that many full-service stations any more.
All of this ended when an inspector for the Illinois Bureau of Weights and Measures told Crawford he could no longer use his 1960s-era gas pumps. They would only sell gas up to $1.99 per gallon, and thanks to taxes and restrictions on domestic drilling, gas costs more than that now. So Crawford was selling the gas by the half gallon. But the inspector revealed that this practice violates a state law passed for obscure reasons in 2004.
Two new pumps would cost $20,000. Since Crawford didn't have the money, he had to stop selling gas.
But not to worry, elderly and disabled drivers can still get full service at a local BP station — provided they call ahead and make an appointment.
On a tip from Bill.

Hey stupids, that law passed in 2004....under Bush's watch.
The Republicans passed it to drive the smaller gas retailers out of business.
So blame yourselves, Republicans. It's your fault.

It's not a matter of Republicans vs. Democrats. It's a matter of conservatives vs. moonbats. Although I'll admit that virtually all Dems are moonbats, whereas many Republicans are not.

Hey stupid Anonymous. Dracula is that you?
It was an Illinois state law, not a federal law. Bush has nothing to do with it. Illinois governor Blagojevich signed it.
I'll quote the article exactly: A state law passed on Nov. 22, 2004, requires the selling of gasoline by the gallon, not the half-gallon.
Try working on your reading comprehension skills before making an ass of yourself.

metalgarth, moonbats blame everything bad on Bush and Republicans. It doesn't matter that it was a law signed by a Democrat governor (probably to prevent "price gouging" by "Big Oil").
But, anon probably thinks Karl Rove was pointing his mind-control beam at Illinois that day, on orders from Halliburton and Mossad.

"So blame yourselves"
No, I think I'll blame the Democratic Illinois congress and the Democratic Governor who signed it. Oh yeah, and I'll blame you for being a complete idiot.

Hehe, it's so funny to me how the only time a lib shows up here is when they feel the need to say something stupid.
I think it's GOOD they post here, it just continues to justify this site.
The liberal creed: When all else fails, "it's all Bush's fault" no matter what...

"The Republicans passed it to drive the smaller gas retailers out of business," said the silly little liberal troll.
I gotta tell you, that ranks right up there among the stupidist, most ill-informed, most assinine statements ever typed by a moonbat.
It's silly liberals who are regulating private businesses out of business in the name of socialism. There's nothing a silly liberal hates more than a successful privateer who doesn't need their "handouts" (won't bend to their control).

Jimbo, you have hit the nail on the head. That is exactly the liberal creed: socialism. Social justice, hyper-equality, etc. etc. is all rooted in Marxism. The people of America had best wake up before it's too late.

So, will anonymoron admit that he was wrong? Will he come back and try to come up with some bonged-out rationalization to claim he was right? Will he return and spew attacks and name-calling to distract from his abundant stupidity (like Dracula [a.k.a. 'He who sucks'])? Or, will he just shut up and slink off in disgrace like he should?
Takin' all bets!

How many stations out there still use ancient pumps that only go to $1.99/gallon? Very very few. This is a non issue. Except maybe for the station owner who is too cheap to upgrade the pumps. One would think when gasoline hit $1.50/gallon they might want to set aside funds for new pumps?

Actually the original anon poster was right. The bill was introduced by a Republican.
If the Republican-run Congress cared so much, they would have prevented Illinois from passing such a law.
Posted by: Gordon at January 5, 2007 10:16 AM
The right of the states is to make any law they like so long as it doesn't breach the constitution. If congress told them to stop there'd be hell to pay.

I don't know who the bill was introduced by, but it was passed and signed into law by a Democratically-controlled congress and governer. You are wrong about who was in charge.

Spoken like a true liberal. (I don't know if you are one, but you're speaking like one.) The owner is too cheap to pony up $20,000.00 to satisfy a bureaucrat's rule that accomplishes nothing? Liberals never have a problem with spending other people's money. I don't think you realize how low a profit margin gas stations operate on. Even if you buy into the idea that gas station owners make lots of money as part of the evil oil company cartel (demonstrably false), he has only been in business for a year and a half. I wonder what you would do if it were your money.
We're not supposed to feel any compassion for the guy because there aren't very many people in his shoes? All for the greater good, I guess. If you lose your business, it's of no concern to the rest of us. We should be good little Marxist proles, buck up, and shut up.

Gordo, the LGF-Troll-with-the-daddy issues is devoid of common sense or logic, he just craves the attention he never got it home. He is one troll that should never be fed.
His modus operandus is to spew some left-wing fable (like "Bush stole Florida in 2000" or "Republicans disenfranchise black voters") Then, after the fallacy is completely ripped apart, he just repeats it again like nothing happened.
