Saturday Night Fright
It's a little late for Halloween, but this video of an Ozark Sufi camp right here in the USA is too creepy to pass up. Watch it with the lights turned down low. Not recommended for small children.
Unfortunately Pete Townshend was unable to attend.

He's off promoting his new CD, probably.
Cheers for the mention!

Was that Charlie Manson I saw in the middle holding hands? The guy in the Misfits Tee shirt really looked out of place.

That sort of thing would be creepy even if it was a group of people standing in a circle chanting "spareribs, spareribs." I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over it though; for one thing, it is far less disturbing than a Sand Mountain Snake Handling Church in Alabama, for another, the Sufi are a mystical order within Islam that doesn't tend to blow stuff up. Sufism seeks communion with God through a transcendental euphoria, a sort of charismatic Islam (and apologies to any Sufi that I may have offended with this quick and off-the-cuff characterization).

Spareribs? It sounded like they were chanting "hunger, hunger." Seems like their leader was the only one who had had a decent meal in weeks!

Uchuck, I've tried pointing that one out as well. Sufism is rejected by "mainstream" islam, and completely repudiated by islamofascist types largely because it incorporates the very unmuslim idea of a direct and personal relationship with God. In that sense it's actualy much closer to judaism and christianity than to Islam, and about as likely to spawn violence as a group of Benedictene monks.

Speaking of Halloween,....
Just wanted to let you know that we crashed terrorist lawyer Lynne Stewart's little 'gloat party' or rather the send-her-off-to-prison gala last night. Full coverage and photos at my blog.
