John Reid: Environmental Moonbattery at Its Darkest
I'll agree with the moonbats on this much: global warming is terrifying. Not because human activity is causing the planet to heat up, but because of the horrors the Left might bring about under cover of climate change hysteria.
This goes beyond bureauweenies like Mary Robinson using it as an excuse to indulge in class warfare, and cartoonish demagogues like Al Gore riding it for shameless self-promotional purposes. Some would actually sign treaties like the Kyoto Protocols, probably throwing our country into a depression — although there was no one in the Senate this nutty when a measure not to ratify Kyoto passed 95-0.
But economic sabotage and eat-the-rich liberalism aren't the scariest creatures swimming under the surface of the environmentalist swamp. A case in point is Melbourne neuroscientist John Reid, as demonstrated in an interview on Ockham's Razor.
According to Reid, the planet cannot support the present human population, which therefore must be drastically lowered. Revealing the contempt for the human race that is disturbingly common on the environmentalist Left, Reid smirks:
I suggest the only attribute that really distinguishes our species from all others is our ability to delude ourselves. [...] It is this power of self-delusion that leads us to believe that somehow we will find a way to fix the problem of our unsustainable consumption of the Earth's resources.
Yet Reid himself has plenty of ideas on how to fix the problem. One solution is planetwide socialism, to bring us to the same level as the least successful societies:
We in the affluent world will have to accept substantial reductions in our standard of living to allow space for the poor, mainly in Africa, to improve their nutrition and health status.
To achieve this, income and wealth distribution within our societies will have to become much more equal. The higher up the tree one is, the greater the sacrifice one will have to make.
His other helpful suggestions include:
- Forbid the use of potable water in air-conditioning equipment, power station cooling, etc., and as wash-water.
- Reduce the number of vehicles that burn fossil fuels to 10% of the current number.
- Convert "iconic sports arenas into vegie [sic] gardens."
- Curtail property rights "severely" so that no one can do anything bureaucrats have decreed to be environmentally damaging.
- Impose a "triage approach" so that only "those who can contribute most to the long-term viability of the planet" receive medical care.
Needless to say, liberty would not be a priority in a society that could implement these plans worldwide. But these are just his little ideas. The big one: reduce the human population to less than half of what it is now. The key question for Reid is how to accomplish this.
He considers "War, Pestilence, and Famine, three of the horsemen of the apocalypse," but these wouldn't run up a high enough body count. Remember, the goal is to rid the planet of 3–4 billion human beings. He favors instead forced sterilization, via a virus that an all-powerful government might put in the water supply. Revealing the Bolshevik red that is never far beneath the surface of envirokook green, Reid decides:
The world's most affluent populations should be targeted first. According to the 2006 Living Planet Report, the six populations that have the biggest per capita ecological footprint live in the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Finland, Canada, Kuwait, and Australia.
Historically, Christianity has limited the evil we've been willing to inflict on each other. However, Reid is no Christian, but a militant atheist who despises both God and the sanctity of human life:
If you must have a God, at least recognise he/she/it did not give humanity licence to trash the planet, whatever the Bible may tell you.
Indeed, humanity has been all too compliant with the Biblical injunction to be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
The precepts of the Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam represent the quintessential perversion of the human mind. They must be abandoned and the notion of the sanctity of human life must be subjugated to the greater sanctity of all life on Earth.
But Reid himself presents an argument in favor of religion. Without falling back on the concept of metaphysical evil, it is impossible to make sense of his mentality.

Convert "iconic sports arenas into vegie [sic] gardens."
Yeah, that's a whole heck of a lot of space. Does that include the parking lot?

Why not get rid of all the physicians? That'll help trim the human population. Anyone have any thoughts on which ones to start with, say, neurologists and neuroscientists? Hmmm?

One of Harry's relatives I see.
Forced sterilization. Good God, I'm all for that. Let's start with Reid. And if he has managed to procreate before now, let's ship his kids to the Ukraine for a little stem cell research.
Obviously too, this chucklehead is one of those bores who trashes holy scripture, yet has never bothered to read more than a few verses before tossing it into the garbage.

Here's hoping that son-of-a-bitch does us all a favour and dies of a self-inflicted 9mm brain hemorrhage. What a scumbag. Everytime I hear these yahoos scream that the planet cannot support us, I think of all the farmers that are being paid NOT to grow food as well as all the billions upon billions of acres of arable land that is sitting fallow waiting to grow crops.

This nutjob says we in the West need to suffer a reduction of standards, as if this will help others ("in Africa") rise. I'm willing to bet he opposes genetically-modified crops that would improve health and nutrition in Africa and developing nations, and probably on the equally benighted principles that (a) GM technologies benefit for-profit companies and (b) GM foods *might* have risks. Reducing our standards will only bring us down, it won't lift anyone else up. Lefties see these things as zero-sum. The only way to help poor people in Africa is to get antiquated and still empty Luddite socialist platitudes out of the way so free markets can take root and real progress can occur.

What a delusional jerk. If he thinks that we're going to let him wipe out half our population, abolish our religious faith, and turn our sports arenas into hippie organic vegetable gardens, he's got another think coming. It'll be intersting when he dies, and has to stand before the God he's spent so much time belittling.

Consequently, many middle-aged-to-elderly people will die uncomfortable deaths. Not every problem is solveable.
I assume Reid is middle aged or above. I support his right to die an "uncomfortable" death ASAP.

Reid probably considers Pol Pot to be his hero and inspiration:
The Khmer Rouge turned Cambodia to year zero. They banned all institutions, including stores, banks, hospitals, schools, religion, and the family. Everyone was forced to work 12 - 14 hours a day, every day. Children were separated from their parents to work in mobile groups or as soldiers. People were fed one watery bowl of soup with a few grains of rice thrown in. Babies, children, adults and the elderly were killed everywhere. The Khmer Rouge killed people if they didn’t like them, if didn’t work hard enough, if they were educated, if they came from different ethnic groups, or if they showed sympathy when their family members were taken away to be killed. All were killed without reason. Everyone had to pledge total allegiance to Angka, the Khmer Rouge government. It was a campaign based on instilling constant fear and keeping their victims off balance.

Gosh a moly it is getting scary out there!! Is it just me or does moonbattery appear to be growing like some dark, poisonous cancer that is threatening humanity itself.

if they want to reduce the population so badyou would think they would be the first to volenteer.

The "population explosion" proponents/extremists have long been refuted scientifically. It's interesting they are getting publicity again for their long-refuted claims.

"I suggest the only attribute that really distinguishes our species from all others is our ability to delude ourselves."
Oh I agree, certain members of our species can delude themselves into thinking that they are not EVIL MANIACS!

I got deja vu from reading this. Flashbacks of this.
Please tell me again how wiping out religion will bring world peace. And don't give me Islam as a counter-example, Islam is a fascistic ideology just like Nazism and Communism, only with the mantle of religion.
