Israel Getting the Shaft From USA?

Israel has no better friend than the Bush Administration — which makes it especially terrifying for the lone outpost of civilization in the Middle East that Bush and the State Department may be pulling the rug out from under Israel to suck up to the Saudis whose citizens brought us 9/11.

There has been an unofficial suspension of arms deliveries since late September, despite the fact that Israel is as always in a perilous situation and might be needing the weapons desperately at any time. Foggy Bottom has prevented Northrop Grumman from providing Israel information on its Skyguard laser weapon, designed to intercept short-range rockets and missiles.

Two reasons given for Israel's marginalization in US strategy are its perceived failure to defeat Hezbollah and the desire to get Saudi Arabia to help America in Iraq. A diplomatic source told Middle East Newsline:

There's nothing like stopping the weapons flow to Israel to show the Saudis that the United States means business.

Just like there's nothing like airliners flown into skyscrapers to show that Saudis mean business. If Saudi Arabia does anything helpful, it will only be to help themselves. Sacrificing a civilized country to curry favor with Muslims who want us destroyed is sheer moonbattery.

On a tip from Allen.

Thank you for the nod and thank you for the effort you put into producing such an interesting and entertaining blog.

You have summarized the Saudi position perfectly. The decades’ long failure of the United States government to come to terms with both the Saudis and Yasser Arafat is mind-boggling. While Iran is clearly the greater short-term threat to US security and interests, the undiminished support of Saudi Arabia for international Wahhabism would be the greater long-term threat, even without the undeserved cover provided by the State Department.

Again, thanks.

Whenever I begin to feel a tad sorry for holding the State Department in such low esteem, along comes something like this.

How long did it take? In less than 24 hours of the taking of the capitol, the US State Department is attempting to paralyze the Ethiopian and Somali military campaign.

"What we'd like to see happen as soon as possible is arrangements take place between the Islamic Courts Union and Transitional Federal Government for a ceasefire"…

“[T]he United States was talking with the interim government in Somalia as well as with neighboring Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda to urge all sides to ‘make sure that we have an open and inclusive political process.’"

"Certainly individuals and groups that supported the Council of Islamic Courts, or elements thereof, that want to be part of and want to help develop Somali society and a lasting, durable government are people who need to be included in this process"…

No doubt, the Saudis Have Spoken

“And I want two lumps of sugar with my tea and the apple-crumb crumpet looks just yummy”, said State Department spokesnon-genderspecificperson Tom (Tiny Tom) Casey.

Why should U.S. civilians die to protect Israel? Why must U.S. taxpayers be fleeced $5B per year so that Socialist Israel need not defend itself with its own money and blood?

Cutting off aid to Israel, or at least arms, will be just one more thing to cause the ultimate end of that nation. Call me a cynic, but I honestly don't believe Israel will last much longer. Their support around the world is dwindling every year. Countries like China, Germany, France, Russia...they are far more interested in trading with the oil-rich Arab nations than in defending Israel (remember the whole oil-for-food fiasco, a la the UN?).

Now the U.S. might join the fray? Remember your history, remember the kingdom of Outremer.... Not that I like comparisons to the Crusades, but the kingdom of Outremer was set up by France and other countries after the first crusade, it incorporated lands that are mostly in Israel and Palestine now. It, of course, didn't last, for the same reasons that Israel can't last. Too many enemies living all around and dwindling support from Europe for what many people began seeing as a lost cause with costs too high.

I feel very sorry for the Israelis, and wish things were different. But the fact is that millions and millions of people living all around them are dreaming of the death of Israel, and planning for it. With outside support failing fast, and losers here in the U.S. preaching hatred against Jews in our colleges while praising any and every Muslim terrorist, and the Media and entertainment industry showing extremely one-sided coverage of middle east events and giving far-left opinions, so that the mindless followers believe they are in the right when they support the destruction of Israel, the end seems inevitable.

One more thought on this subject, as it pertains to the millions of U.S. citizens in this country who are helping to shorten the life of Israel by calling them socialists, or siding with Hezbollah ("we are all Hezbollah"), or making Jewish jokes fashionable again, or claiming, awkwardly, that somehow the Jews are the bad guys and the entire rest of the middle east that preaches hatred towards Jews are the good guys, or convincing themselves that the sacrifice of Israel is worth it if we can have peace over there (as if that would ever happen).

Now follow this comparison, it's really going somewhere.

I remember back in 1991 or so, when Eastern Airlines was on the brink of destruction and the mechanics union and other unions were picketing outside the headquarters in Atlanta. The company finally folded, the strikers demanding more money right up until the bitter end. When interviewed on t.v., one of the strikers summed up the unions thoughts on the matter by saying "Well it took a long time but we finally brought this airline down."

To me, that was the epitome of not being able to admit you did something wrong. You claim that the bad thing that happened was actually what you WANTED to happen. Rationalization at it's most extreme. Stupidity at it's finest.

The comparison is that even after Israel is no more (which I believe will happen in our lifetime), those on the far left will STILL be claiming that it was a good thing, that Israel HAD to go, that yes, they are for preserving life but, somehow, not if you're Jewish. "Well it took a long time, but we finally brought that country down."

That all the women and children killed in the Muslim attacks were, after all, living in the wrong place. And if you don't like it they will simply change the subject by comparing it to Iraq or something, as if what they claim is evil justifies some other evil.

And if, in some awkward moment, remorse were to set in in the hearts of a liberal, they would rationalize it by saying, "it's all Bush's fault."
