More Ideological Myopia From APHA
Once again, the world's largest organization of public health professionals, the American Public Health Association (APHA), has used its annual gathering to indulge in pure moonbattery.
Meeting in ideologically congenial Boston, APHA demanded that US forces retreat from Iraq immediately. They are to be replaced by the corrupt, child-raping boobs of the UN — who beat a hasty retreat from Iraq years ago, at the first sign that they could get hurt there.
Despite the violence and chaos that would obviously follow an American withdrawal, APHA also demands "reconstruction of vital health-supporting infrastructure in Iraq and ensuring safe access to this infrastructure by the Iraqi people."
The money taxpayers will save in the short term by surrendering to the terrorists who would eventually choke off our power supply is to be spent on free health care — not only in our own country, but in Third-World countries too.
Concerning issues closer to home, APHA denounced abstinence-only sex education, demanding
funding for a new federal program to promote comprehensive sexuality education, combining information about abstinence with age-appropriate sexuality education.
It's very open-minded of APHA moonbats to include "information about abstinence," considering that they clearly do not associate it with "age-appropriate sexuality education" for children.
Then there's the nanny state aspect. Federal, state, and local governments were called upon "to ban and monitor the use of trans fat-laden partially hydrogenated oils in restaurants."
Next, they came after beer. Yelped APHA's executive director Georges Benjamin:
The global burden of disease for alcohol is approaching that of tobacco. A framework convention on alcohol would help strengthen the hand of countries in setting policies that protect human health.
Here "policies that protect human health" appears to be moonbattese for "prohibition."
Indulging in moonbattery is hardly new for APHA. At their 2002 meeting, they appointed themselves schoolmarms, and gave the USA a grade of "D" for having failed to
Address poverty, social injustice and health disparities that may contribute to the development of terrorism.
Delving still deeper, it gave America an "F" for failing to
Prevent hate crimes, ethnic, racial and religious discrimination, including profiling; promote cultural competence, diversity training, and dialogue among peoples; and protect human rights and civil liberties.
I wonder what grade Saudi Arabia would get.
Coming not long after 9/11, the 2002 meeting also included a denunciation of the Patriot Act, and a declaration that we have no right to detain people who enter the country illegally. At the time Bob Moffit of the Heritage Foundation diagnosed APHA with "ideological myopia," noting that the organization promotes "a stunningly narrow view of the world."

I believe this represents one of the biggest problems with the war in Iraq, people simply don't understand what's going on over there.
For APHA to say they demand "reconstruction of vital health-supporting infrastructure in Iraq and ensuring safe access to this infrastructure by the Iraqi people" makes absolutely no sense. What do they think has been going on over there!!!???
The U.S. government has, for years, been doing just that! Any quick google search will provide a plethora of information on the ongoing rebuilding efforts to provide schools, hospitals, clinics, et al.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/12/20051207.html
And for them to add ensure "safe access to this infrastructure by the Iraqi people"...well gee if we pull our troops out, how on earth do we give anyone any kind of safety over there?
So for years the U.S. has been trying to make things safe over there, trying to rebuild their infrastructure, trying to build hospitals/schools/etc (which by the way is NEVER reported in the MSM), and these asshats expect us to pull our troops out and then do the same thing?
It's a matter of simply ignoring the world around you in favor of political masturbation brought on by a frenzy unbridled hatred after 12 years of Republican dominated government. They've simply snapped.
