Lee Camp: Sounding the Retreat For Christianity

At a conference in Nashville yesterday devoted to resolving religious conflict, Lipscomb University professor Lee Camp had some suggestions that must be music to Muslims' ears:

We need to forsake the Christendom model. The most basic Christian commitment … is that we say we believe in the Lordship of Jesus. But, if we claim that, how can a Muslim or Jew trust us, if we say Jesus is the Lord of all Lords?

Why should Christians take Christ so seriously? After all, according to Camp:

If I hold to a model of Jesus … what I've committed to in my baptism is loving my enemy. [...] It's an exclusive commitment to the way of Christ, not to the exclusive authority of Christ.

The old "why they hate us" routine was given a religious cast as Camp called upon Christians to examine their sins:

We have such short historical (memory) spans as white Christians. There is a history of anti-Semitism, the violence and bloodshed of the crusades and cultural imperialism. We have to deal with the reality of what Christians have done, which in some cases has been to kill people.

Whereas Islam is the Religion of Peace, as we all know.

Here's an idea I'm surprised Camp didn't think of: why stop at forsaking Christendom? Why not just forsake Christ completely and be done with it? Why not convert to Islam? We would have to live as slaves to a demonic god from the Dark Ages, but at least then the nice peace-loving terrorists would stop trying to kill us.

Now for the scary part: Camp does not teach peace studies or victimology or even journalism. He is on the faculty of Lipscomb University's College of Bible and Ministry, where he helps educate future ministers.

Who the fuck cares if the Muslims trust us?

The West continues to march toward it's death.

every knee will bow and every tongue confess "Yeshua is Lord to the Glory of the Father."

welcome to apostacy folks - coming to a theater near you.

Hey wimpy fag professor pencil neck geek, are you more worried about what the camel and goat fuckers think of Christianity or whether I will pummel you into a bloody pulp if I catch your sorry wimpy ass in public?

There is but one "unforgiveable sin": Knowing full well that Jesus Christ is King of Kings and rejecting Him anyway.

These words by Mr. Camp are very "Pharisean". I'd say he's going to have some explaining to do when his time comes.

Response by the university and professor is here. They say it was stretched and taken out of context. Hmmmm...

I'd just like to point out that Dr. Camp was severely misquoted in this article. I recommend you read his book, "Mere Discipleship" to find out what he really believes.

Blessings,
The Gourd

"Lee Camp: Sounding the Retreat For Christianity"

Being that there are over 1 billion Catholics and no telling how many Chritians in the world, Mr. Camp and the Muslims are in for alot of horn blowing. I hope they have at least a ton of spit valves.

Rich, I read the article from the link you provided (thanks). I have to agree after having read it, that Camp was misquoted. I wonder however, if the way he couched his words didn't make that easy to do? For now, I'd give the man the benefit of the doubt. But we all know seminaries are filled with doubters and NWO adherents so it's tough to trust anyone speaks from a pulpit anymore.

You don't know him and I do. He was grossly misquoted, and the Tennessean was too wimpy to put the clarification on the front page.

He lives, and dies to himself daily, for the Lord. What have you done for Him lately? I ask myself that every time I am challenged by Lee Camp.

Sorry, anyone using the phrase "bloodshed of the crusades and cultural imperialism" does not work for the Lord, but works for the socialist experiment, in other words, SATAN. Pure and simple.

Posted by: Doug at December 1, 2006 1:02 PM

You just used the phrase yourself, you know.

Posted by: Alice Griffith at December 1, 2006 2:54 PM

Well then, if you read or listen to his work work as you claim, so have you. nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah.

Get lost you simpleton ignoramus. I can't explain a simple concept to you, your pea-brain might explode.

Hey, isn't that Fred Phelps running down the street? better hurry and catch up with him Alice.

Scary. Very scary.

Well, as anyone with an average to slightly-above-average IQ could see, my obviously too subtle comment referred to quoting a speaker out of context. Sorry you are so behind, not to mention A Behind, and missed the letter from Lee putting his words back into context.

Dear brother in Christ,
Unfortunately the Tennessean newpaper totally (some are saying deliberately) misquoted Dr. Lee Camp.
Here is a link to what he actually said, http://www.lipscomb.edu/filter.asp?SID=4&fi_key=657&co_key=10941 including this statement:

“In my lecture, I too insisted that we must not discard what is most important to us. I am a Christian who holds, without apology, to the Lordship of Jesus. I cannot accept any strategy of “conflict resolution” that asks me to set aside that particular claim. I believe and teach that Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings… Because I profess that Jesus is Lord of Lords, I have committed myself to loving both neighbor and enemy. Because I profess that Jesus is King of Kings, I have committed myself to serving and honoring all people. Because I profess that Jesus is the ultimate authority to which all other authorities must submit, that authority requires of me to extend gracious, generous hospitality to the stranger, the pilgrim, and those who do not see the world as I see it.”

All of us who take Christ’s words seriously need to seek Dr. Camp’s forgiveness saying all kinds of false things against him for witnessing to Jesus. If you read his book “Mere Discipleship” you will find how deeply biblical this humble man of God is.

You’re brother in Christ,
Jarrod
