LBJ Faced the Same Fifth Column

Another free-spending Texan once stood where W stands now. Lyndon Johnson might have given birth to a monster that will eventually cripple our society with his "Great Society" expansion of the welfare state, but at least he understood that our totalitarian enemies need to be fought.

Yesterday tapes were released of LBJ questioning advisors about troop escalation in Vietnam in 1966, as the war worsened and his party suffered midterm election defeats. His perception of the New York Times remains accurate:

The Times is run by a bunch of commies, and they want to get out of Vietnam and yield it to them, and I don't think I can quite do that.

Too bad so few of today's Democrats would take this point of view.

LBJ could relate to Bush's challenges.

On a tip from Wiggins.

Since the Times crowd have now taken over the dem party, I'd say they won... too bad.

The 60's showed the last of the good democrats, such as Bobby Kennedy. (I know, I know, he helped cover up the murder of Marilyn Monroe).

After that all we get is "I Hate America" Carter, and Slick Willy. It makes me sad that the dem party might come back to power even more in 2008, considering the few good people who are left in it. A bunch of do-nothing complainers who will spend the next 30 years blaming all of our problems on Bush.
