Hard-Knuckle Nancy

As Bush plants the white flag and grabs hold of his ankles by canning Rummy in favor Robert Gates the day after the election, a few quotes from a piece in Time Magazine highlight the questionable wisdom of throwing yourself on the mercy of Nancy Pelosi, trusting in her kindly and moderate temperament:

I pride myself in being called a liberal.
I don't consider myself a moderate.
Anybody knows not to mess with me.
If people are ripping your face off, you have to rip their face off.

Even the libs at Time regard Pelousy as "an aggressive, hyperpartisan liberal pol" who "has embraced hard-knuckle partisanship." Let's hope the White House is planning to stand some ground.

Pelosi's face hasn't been ripped off, though it certainly has been stretched.

Bush traded in Rumsfeld for Gates due to the publics displeasure, is anything going to really change? Likely not.

Although it will be interesting to see what kind of changes at the Pentagon Gates is looking to make.

Bush has buckled every time he has come up against the Democrats, don't expect him to develop a spine now.
