Europeans Buying Into Global Warming — With Other People's Cash

Europeans seem to be swallowing global warming hysteria hook, line, and sinker. Yet there are limits to how far they will go to rescue the planet from the threat of warmer weather.

A poll for the Financial Times found that 86% of the population in Britain, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain believe that humans are contributing to climate change; 45% even believe that this will pose a threat to them and their families.

If all they have to do is give up some freedom, there's no problem: 68% would support restrictions on their behavior and purchases to reduce the alleged threat. But using economically efficient alternative energy is a different matter. Only 12% strongly favored investment in new nuclear capacity, whereas 29% were strongly opposed to building new nuclear facilities.

The answer, according to Europeans, is renewables: 85% want their governments to spend more on renewable energy. But apparently citizens expect governments to spend someone else's money, not their own, because less that a quarter would give up as much as one week's wages.

Maybe they could run their economies on pixie dust — provided someone else pays for it.

And from where did the 86% get their global warming information? Why from the news media, of course. ('nuf said)

There is global warming, it has been going on since the last ice age broke up thousands of years ago. Furthermore, there is no incontrivertable evidence showing humans are pushing the envelope on weather phenomena. The data sets are all over the place with respect to the influence of people on weather.

Perhaps the most dangerous greenhouse gas is water vapor, which is very difficult to model in the forcasting programs. Recently, research out of Arizona shows that particulate matter, ie soot from burning things, is a critical climate shifter. However, it really depends on the temperature and moisture content of the air at the time the particles are pumped into the air.

What is known about the current weather patterns, for the last few millions of years, is the earth heats up gradually, then spikes a temp (time frames for the spike are poorly researched in the rock record). That spike, for reasons unknown, triggers an ice age. A thermal minimum is reached and then the gradual warm up. Over thousands of years. This cycle has been repeated several times and humans have been lucky enough to expand during a warm up.

Thank you geologist, it is good of you to inject some scientific data for us. I also am educated in environmental subjects. I do not believe that humans are causing global warming, because the globe is not warming. The unbiased data show no warming that is outside the norm for Earth. http://www.junkscience.com and http://www.globalwarming.org provide good data to refute the eco-kooks.

Everyone also keeps forgetting about the Sun and the Maunder Minimum. Money wasted on 'Global Warming' ravings should be focused on helping us adapt to a naturally warmer planet, which is a good thing. If Mother Nature wanted to boot us off the evolutionary ladder, she would cool the planet, which would cause a large chunk of the population to starve....then come the wonderful diseases. Just look at the affects from The Little Ice Age.

You silly person. Global Warming ManBearPig hysteria isn't about finding the best way to adapt to climatic change, it's about giving liberals something to feel smug and self-righteous about while giving leftists a tool they can use to implement a planned, political economy.
