Response Ad to Michael J. Fox's Missouri Moonbattery

Michael J. Fox's recent exploitation of his disease to advance the progressive campaign to further dehumanize unborn babies marked a new low in political advertising. In case you haven't seen it:

It's probably no accident that Fox's Parkinson's seems especially bad in the commercial. Here he is in his own words admitting that he will stop taking his meds in order to worsen his condition so as to pull heartstrings:

I had made a deliberate choice to appear before the subcommittee without medication. It seemed to me that this occasion demanded that my testimony about the effects of the disease, and the urgency we as a community were feeling, be seen as well as heard. For people who had never observed me in this kind of shape, the transformation must have been startling.

As Rush Limbaugh points out, this isn't the first time Democrats have politicized disease. John Edwards famously promised that Christopher Reeve would walk again, if only voters would elect John Kerry. But Missouri's Amendment 2 battle is particularly disturbing because under cover of confusing verbiage it would establish human cloning as a constitutional right.

There is no evidence that any miracle cures are in the wings if only Jim Talent, who opposes Amendment 2, could be removed from office. The objective — beyond replacing Talent with Democrat Claire McCaskill in the Senate — is to push aside any morality regarding the sanctity of human life.

Stem cell research is not really the issue; it is already legal in Missouri, and Talent is not trying to change that. The issue is raising unborn humans in Petri dishes for purposes of harvesting their cells, like something out of a horror movie. The motivation is not so much to cure disease, as to establish that human life has no inherent value, thus defending the liberal sacrament, abortion.

Amendment 2 opponents have a response on the air, featuring Jeff Suppan, who will be pitching for the Cardinals in the World Series tonight:

Considering current advances in adult stem-cell cloning, the idea that we need to clone embryos is fast becoming seen as a biotechnological dead-end. It was never particularly viable to begin with; the stem cells would be seen by the body as foreign objects, which would prompt an immune reaction. Transplant patients have to take immunosupressants to stay alive with their new bits.

Imagine, instead, the ability to take some of your own cells and clone new bits from those instead. It's already been done. There are still questions about how many times the cells can divide, but those questions are slowly being solved. Quite why there's this obsession with embryonic stem cells, when perfectly viable adult cells could be had for a fraction of the cost involved in trying to ram embryonic stem-cell research down an unqilling populattion's throat, is beyond me.

I think the debate as to whether or not to allow cloning kind of makes the issue a bit more bland. The real issue is, does one support growing children specifically for the purpose of killing them and harvesting their organs?

I think the issue of embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) is directly tied to abortion. I wrote about it back in 2004.

Protecting embryos at any stage is unacceptable because it means they are something special. If they are something special, then abortion is wrong.

If this is merely about research, why isn't research using adult stem cells being pushed as hard? None of the ethical issues surrounding ESCR exist with adult stem cells, yet they are glossed over. Everything is about ESCR.

I think it has everything to do with abortion.

Actually, the ads are on two completely seperate issues within the stem cell debate.

The Fox ad is for FEDERAL candidates wanting to expand stem cell research.

The other ad is against a STATE constitutional amendment to lift stem cell restrictions.

But don't let that stop you from bashing a guy's illness.

I'm sure he contracted Parkinsons and ended a lucrative acting career just so he could speak in six campaign commercials in 2006.

I sure wish we all had a debilitating disease WE could exploit!

Oh, and the meds actuall can add to the shaking. Without them, he goes completely rigid.

Might want to read up on Parkisons before you start diagnosing someone on video like Bill Frist does.

You might be surprised that a lot of what politicians are telling the gulible con-servatives out there isn't what science or medicine has discovered.

But don't let facts stand in the way of a good personal attack. As our Clueless Leader says: "Stay the Course."

Or is it "filet the horse?"

Or "spay the Norse?"

It's OK, Rush will have our new talking points later today!

Let's not forget the blatant lies by the people pushing ESCR.

They refuse to even use the term. They just make blanket statements that conservatives oppose or oppose expanding stem cell research, never differentiating between adult and embryonic stem cell research.

I wonder why they never make mention of embryonic stem cells. Could it be that the public would make a connection with killing unborn babies?

I could care less if M.J. Fox is trashing The Repubs, The Dems, or The Martians. He's one annoying little twerp. Always has been. Always will be. He's more annoying than The Dr. Pepper vest wearing guy.

Seems to me the Medical Industry wants that tax payer funded research so they can bilk the crap out of the tax payers. Why no protesting by Moonbats who bitch about other corporations "feeding at the trough" pork barrel spending cronyism? Let the Medical Industry foot the bill itself if it's so profitable, lucrative and viable. In the meantime, Libruls shut yer Pie Hole.

Some of us out here in the adult stem cell business know where all the private $ is going--and it ain't ESCR. Follow the $ and you'll always be where the action is. NASA has been working on expansion of adult stem cells for over 20 years on the space shuttle. (Zero or negative gravity is the key for growth). Some huge announcements will be soon forthcoming.

Another consideration...embryonic stem cells have their oncogenes in an active state, as is true with all embryos; meaning, transplanted as is or even modified, cancer in the host is likely to result. They're not truly usable at this stage of the game. There are worthy alternatives.

But let's get serious. What makes Michael J Fox's think he's important enough to justify the destruction of other humans just to perpetrate his own stupid existence? The answer is simple: like all before you, suck it up Fox and deal with your illness like a man.

If Im not mistaken, stem-cell research wouldn't even help Fox, as its for genetic engineering. That can only be done on a developing baby, not a fully developed adult.

That would require viral engineering to implant the 'cure' to something like Parkinsons or even Alzheimers. That is an entirely different arena of medical technology.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Political discourse in this country is starting to look like the monkey crap fights at the zoo.

While I sympathize with Fox's plight he is prone to doing things like going off his medication to enhance his speeches - he even admitted to doing so when he testified before Congress.

Fox has always been a liberal. That said, it is just asking for trouble suggesting he was faking it or acting.

Liberals seem to think "Federal Funding" of something will automatically bring a cure for a given illness. Researchers around the world have been experimenting with ebryonic stem cells for several years with few positive results and none to speak of in humans. Fox should donate nearly all of his wealth (probably north of $100 million) to this research and pass the hat around Hollywood (they could all sell one multimillion dollar vacation home, raising $1 billion at least) to finance this research.

Steve, the one little word that Fox chose to eliminate from his propaganda speech was EMBRYONIC. Ummm, now just that one word changes the whole dynamics of his commercial.
And yes, the ad is about wanting to expand stem cell research, EMBRYONIC stem cell research. And the Democrat in Missouri wants to lift ALL restrictions on ESCR. Talent want to continue with the current SCR that is already legal in Missouri, using adult stem cells.
I understand Fox wanting to encourage research. The research affects him. But to date, there have been no breakthroughs in embryonic stem cell research and over 70 in adult stem cell research. Even the scientist who works for the Michael J. Fox organization has said there are too many problems with ESCR as it most likely causes brain tumors, not so with adult SCR.

And if you think that not taking his meds causes Fox to go rigid, perhaps you would be willing to explain how Fox could testify in front of Congress, sans medication, and was not rigid, a fact that he admits to in his book.

Nice try at spin. But those of us who have a family member who had an incurable disease (HIV/AIDs) seem to me more informed that the left who want to devalue life to save a life that may not be of any value.

So how could Michael J Fox take such a controversial stand on Embryonic Stem Cell Research? That’s easy. Democrats asked him to and Michael J. Fox shook on it.

The initiative clearly allows for cloning a whole human being. The only thing you can't do is insert cells into a uterus. If you can find a way to grow a kid in a nutrient bath somehow you're home free.
