Quebec Puts the Screws to Christian Schools
Quebec's Department of Education is threatening to prohibit parents from sending their kids to evangelical Christian schools, on the grounds that these schools aren't teaching state dogma.
Parents themselves pay for these schools, over and above what they already pay in taxes to finance the state schools. But apparently they are to have no say at all in how their children are educated.
Quebec is traditionally a Catholic society. Is this yet another example of the Quebecois hysterically defending their cultural identity?
Au contraire. Quebec is actually rejecting its culture — in favor of moonbattery. The evangelical schools are being targeted for teaching Catholic doctrine on issues like homosexuality and evolution.
As Ted Byfield puts it:
Not long ago, Quebec was a Catholic Christian society, whose loyalty to its faith and historic traditions seemed unswerving. Now, having all but abandoned the church, it has the lowest attendance rates in Canada — and the highest rate of cohabitation outside marriage, highest divorce and abortion rates and lowest birth rate.
The cry of the Quebec separatists, who now sizably outnumber federalists, is they must leave Canada to preserve their heritage and culture. This is simply a lie.
First to last, their culture and heritage is Catholic Christian, and they have forsaken it. What they want to preserve is somebody else's culture, Sweden's perhaps.
If Quebec splits off from Canada, it might want to change its name to New Sweden — or maybe Moonbatlandia.

So true--they have abandoned their culture with a western style self-loathing. All things french will soon disappear from the planet. They have become a pitiable people who stand for nothing and tolerate everything.

It's not that they tolerate everything, it is that they do not tolerate. In the rest of Canada where there is more toleration they tolerate the Christian schools. It is because of no toleration. It is a fear of what is different. For them evangelicals are like a minority that they fear will "take over" unless they squash it now while it is small.
