Harold Ford Jr. on Foreign Policy and Religion

Voters already know that Harold Ford Jr., who might soon be elected to the Senate, is black, is not a Republican, and is regarded by People Magazine as one of the "beautiful people." But many may not be aware that he has another qualification for office: a very unique point of view.

On foreign policy, for example, Ford may not be able to tell the difference between ballistic missile and nuclear tests in North Korea, but he is probably the first to recognize the nuclear threat we face from our close ally Australia.

On religion, he earned himself a round of applause with this remarkable statement:

My friend Lincoln Davis who chairs our campaign says there are, there's one big difference between us and misfortunate Republicans when it comes to our faith: he said that Republicans fear the Lord; he said Democrats fear AND love the Lord.

If voters aren't ready for Ford's cutting edge views, he can always fall back on the race card, as his supporters have done by howling this perfectly reasonable ad off the air with claims that it's racist:

This is the guy who claims to be an attorney, yet he never passed his bar exam. He's a pretty boy mulatto who's counting on the votes of both races and his pseudo-religiosity to get him in.
