Global Warming Inspires British Bureaucrats to Loot the Public

Posted by Dave Blount at October 31, 2006 11:39 AM

If you think global warming doesn't affect you, you must not live in Britain, where Environmental Secretary David Miliband has been inspired by climate fluctuation hysteria to make a bid for sweeping "enabling powers" to extend carbon emission controls to cover "non-energy intensive" sectors of the economy, including supermarkets and hotels. The staggering costs of indulging in this moonbattery will as always be passed along to the consumer.

Green tax levies are already laying a heavy load on the shoulders of anyone who travels by air or drives a vehicle that won't blow over in a stiff wind. But that's not enough for Miliband, whose schemes would cause gas prices to keep going up in Britain even as they go down everywhere else.

EU agreements meant to suppress economic activity greenhouse gases by having countries trade carbon credits fail to cover many industries that do not produce significant emissions. But Miliband wants to force these businesses to buy carbon credits anyway, driving up prices for consumers.

David Frost of the British Chambers of Commerce calls this approach a "stealth tax" by which "business becomes the villain."

But of course, business has always been the villain from the point of view of moonbats.
