Food Stamps in Four Hours — For Illegal Aliens
Posted by Dave Blount at October 14, 2006 5:26 PM
In an appalling example of our government conspiring with Mexico's against American taxpayers, the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service and the Mexican embassy teamed up to produce brochures and public service announcements encouraging illegal aliens to take advantage of a Spanish-language class called "Food Stamps in Four Hours," which teaches them how to affix their lips to the government teat.
Ads airing throughout Southern California have encouraged thousands of illegals to step forward for handouts, which in the past they haven't done quickly enough to suit moonbats. Low participation "is a dilemma in the state" according to Bruce Rankin of the Westside Food Bank in Los Angeles. Complains Jerry Sanders of the Community Action Partnership:
They won't come on their own. They come from countries where they think the government isn't to be trusted. They figure there's a catch to free food.
There's a catch, all right: taxpaying American citizens have to foot the bill.
Illegals have also hesitated to lap up government milk out of self-respect. But moonbattery will eat that away in no time. Says Alfonso Chavez, also of Community Action Partnership:
The Mexican man is macho. He doesn't want to come to this country and beg. I tell them this is a program that will help the children. The kids are American-born, and they have a right to this program.
Once you start taking handouts to "help the children," it just keeps getting easier.
Sylvia Cruz came to the "Food Stamps in Four Hours" class after hearing about how risk-free and easy it is for illegals to collect food stamps on a Spanish-language news report. She then convinced her husband, a construction worker making $1,800 a month, to get on the dole. Said Cruz:
I think it was comforting for him to know the consul was talking about this program.
It certainly should not be comforting to those forced to pick up the tab.
Needless to say, offering something for nothing to illegals is not going to help our border problem. Nor is it going to help immigrants' assimilation, because do-gooder social programs will make it all too easy for them to subsist in Spanish-speaking ghettos from one generation to the next.
As with Arab immigrants in Europe, it isn't the immigrants themselves who are the problem. It is their children, who grow up expecting handouts and the privileged treatment dictated by political correctness. Europe is a generation ahead of us. That's why torched cars light up Paris at night and not Los Angeles — yet.
