English Clergy: Christianity Causes Domestic Abuse

A new report entitled "Domestic Abuse, Guidelines for Pastoral Responsibility," backed by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, finds not only that the Church has failed to prevent domestic abuse, but that it has actually encouraged it by teaching harmful Christian principles.

According to the report, the notion of a masculine God to Whom mortals submit validates "overbearing and ultimately violent patterns of behavior" in intimate relationships. By endorsing self-denial rather than the more fashionable self-indulgence, and by encouraging forgiveness, Christianity invites victims to forgive their abusers rather than turn them in to authorities. Putting emphasis on forgiveness is "perverse" when someone's welfare and safety are at stake.

No doubt the authors would consider forgiveness in the context of a crucifixion to be downright depraved. It's hardly surprising that Islam is so rapidly displacing Christianity in England, if the Christian clergy has such low regard for its own faith.

Interesting how you can make Christains evil if you twist things like this, but if you had a similar report about Muslims that simply states their violent beliefs as outlined in the Koran, you'd be stoned in the streets.

I read a number of similiar articles, and then some that were a bit more accurate when I actually found the source of the report online!

http://www.cofe.anglican.org/info/papers/domesticabuse.pdf Is the report they are talking about.

Have a little bit more accurate view of what the report actually says. LOL I was a bit thrown when I first read this also!

LOL but as you know the media never twists things around to make them sound a bit more interesting do they!
