Danish Court Throws Out Cartoon Suit — On Narrow Grounds

A lawsuit filed in Denmark by a bunch of local Muslim groups against Jyllands-Posten for publishing the bland illustrations that were used as a pretext for the Cartoon Intifada has been thrown out.

Jyllands-Posten's editor in chief Carsten Juste was justifiably relieved:

Everything but a pure acquittal would have been a disaster for press freedom and the media's ability to fulfill its duties in a democratic society.

Now for the bad news: the suit was only dismissed because it couldn't be proved that "the purpose of the drawings was to present opinions that can belittle Muslims."

The Muslims who are gradually tearing Europe to the ground aren't likely to forbid themselves from presenting opinions that can belittle infidels. But then, why belittle when you can behead?
