Berserkly Punishes Sea Scouts
The city of Berkeley, California is earning its reputation for heavy-handed moonbattery by putting the screws to the Sea Scouts, who teach sailing skills to area youth. As a public service organization, they qualify for free berthing privileges at Berkeley's marina — or at least they did, until the city decided that they must "repudiate" their association with the Boy Scouts of America or pay $6,000 to use the marina.
Lefties loathe the BSA because it is an explicitly Christian organization that does not allow homosexuals or atheists in positions of leadership. Fortunately, the First Amendment guarantees freedom of association. Unfortunately, moonbats couldn't care less what the Constitution guarantees, unless it suits their agenda.
The Thomas More Law Center filed a brief in support of the Sea Scouts, seeking to reverse a California Supreme Court's opinion that Berkeley could discriminate against them because it doesn't like their beliefs.
Precedent is not on its side, but if Berkeley wins, look for John Mark Karr to sue his way into the Girl Scouts as a Den Mother.

On a tip from Wiggins.

Maybe someone should tell Berkeley that the Sea Scouts are essentially sailors in training. Berkeley residents have lots of ...um...affection for sailors.

If the Boy Scouts were to open their ranks as these leftards want, there would be a huge influx of child molesters, above those who are already there. Look at the Roman Catholic homosexual, child molesting priest problem.
This would lead to large numbers of kids being abused, subsequent lawsuits, and ultimately the end of the Boy Scouts.
That, I think, is the ultimate goal of these freaks. If you keep them out, they'll try to destroy you. If you let them in, they'll destroy you. It's disgusting that there are lawyers and judges that actually side with perverts and against the Boy Scouts.

I don't know, but if I wanted to introduce an Atheist to Christianity, I don't think I would put a sign on the church door saying “Non Christians keep out”.
As for gays, I can see not having gays as leaders, But I understand that there are a lot of gays who do not practice homosexuality. Now if I was going to try to turn a kid away from homosexuality, I think the church would be as good a way as any.
If homosexuality is not a choice and is genetic, discriminating against gays would be like discriminating against blacks, orientals or people with birth defects. I see absolutely no difference.
Becoming a Boy Scout is the dream of many kids. When the time to join comes and he finds out it is necessary to be a Christian, to a kid that is like a terrorist telling you you must renounce your religion and become a radical Muslim or die.
When I was a kid, the Boy scouts taught you the scout oath ...
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
And the scout law which taught you to be TRUSTWORTHY LOYAL HELPFUL FRIENDLY COURTEOUS KIND OBEDIENT CHEERFUL THRIFTY BRAVE CLEAN and REVERENT
The definition of reverent is ...A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
I guess we can chalk off “respecting the beliefs of others”. Look where our world is now because people do not respect the beliefs of others. Doctors who perform abortions are being murdered and even Muslims are being murdered because they do not support the radical factions of Islam. And the boy scouts are telling our kids that is OK.

Actually, the Boy Scouts of America is not "an explicitly Christian organization"; rather, the Boy Scouts of America merely requires members to believe in God. The BSA does not define what constitutes a belief in God and is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward religious training. There are Sikhs, Jews and Buddhists who are Scouts; there are Muslim scouts, too. The fact that a majority of scouts are one or another denomination of Christianity is more reflective of the culture of the United States, in which Christians vastly outnumber all other faiths. It is this core American culture which Leftists abhor; the religion aspect is merely a convenient excuse for bashing on an organization that celebrates that American culture.

One final thought --
Robert, you're incorreect in your presumption that BSA would tell a kid he has to be Christian to join. That is utterly false. In fact, the BSA does not require membership in a religious organization or association in order to join Scounting (though it does encourage membership and participation in the religious program and activities of a church, synagogue or other religious association. BSA regulations prohibit those Scout troops associated with churches or other distinctly religious organizations from requiring members of other denominations or faiths to take part in or observe a religious ceremony distinctly unique to that organization or church.
