NYC Nanny-Staters Go After Restaurants Again

Having banned smoking in restaurants, New York City's nanny state dictators are moving on to new conquests. Next on their list: artificial trans fatty acids, which the health department proposes to ban at all of the 24,600 establishments that serve food in the city.

The felonious fats make their way into pie crusts, French fries, and donuts by way of shortenings, margarine, frying oils, etc.

According to Chuck Hunt, executive vice president of the NYC chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association, the proposal would result in havoc as cooks would be forced to pour over every ingredient and discard old recipes. Just having the wrong vegetable shortening on the shelf could result in restaurants facing fines.

Fast food chains that employ thousands of NYC residents — such as McDonald's, KFC, and Dunkin' Donuts — would have to revise their products or be banned from the city.

Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden admitted that the ban would not be easy on restaurants. But then, making it easy to do business is not a bureaucrat's job.

Soon to be banned in the Big Apple?

This is probably an attempt to get rid of all the "nasty" working-class delis and diners that are dotted around new york like tasty, greasy little mushrooms of flavour, and screw the millions who almost literally survive by the food in those places. It'll last right up to the moment all those ritzy places the high-class types like to visit are forced to dump every single meal they sell.

It goes without saying, sir, that I was somewhat abruptly taken aback in a vaguely aburdist way by the appalling subtlety as per which you heretofore have minimalized the gastrologic treachery that has oh so laid us low by its sheer enterologically deceitful implications. Have you no shame? After all these many years in the late-nite drive thru lane, have you no shame?

Next, New Yorkers will be forced to take a minder along when they go shopping, to make sure they put correct food choices in their shopping carts.
