Ned the Nincompoop
Shadow Party tool Ned Lamont isn't the sharpest tool in George Soros' shed. It's SOP for Dems to steer clear of all things Monica, but the Nedster couldn't help but open is mouth on the topic — and in went his loafer, tassel and all.
Remember Joe Lieberman's rebuke of Clinton from the Senate floor in 1998, the one that chastised Slick Willy for his appallingly irresponsible behavior, but stopped well short of suggesting that anything should be done about it? This masterful political stroke defused enough of the anger over Clinton's reckless degeneracy and disregard for the law as to doom efforts to pry him out of office. It also launched Lieberman onto the national stage, setting him up to be Gore's pick for VP.
But Lamont thinks it was a bad idea, chiding Lieberman with this:
You don't go to the floor of the Senate and turn this into a media spectacle.
Lamont apparently doesn't remember that Monicagate attained spectacle status without any help from Lieberman — who was pouring cold water on it to make it go away.
Connecticut's answer to Dennis Kucinich implied that Lieberman was disloyal to one of his "oldest friends" by mildly criticizing Clinton's outrageous and criminal behavior. The irony isn't just that Lieberman has been knifed in the back by virtually every "old friend" in his party, but that Clinton himself, after initially supporting Lieberman, is now bashing him on behalf of Lamont.
Dan Gerstein, communications director for Lieberman's campaign, helped write his Lewinsky speech. He holds that it prevented Dems from "being widely perceived as 'the anything goes party.'" Thanks to the way the party turned on Lieberman, we now know that there is one taboo: supporting your own country's war effort.
But fortunately for Lamont, being a moron is still okay.

Ned is either an idiot or just skillfully spinning the "impeachment for sex" myth deeper and deeper into the historical reality.
You are exactly right: Lieberman's speech allowed everyone to shuffle away and do nothing. The comeuppance for dragging the whole country through a year-long appalling spectacle of humiliating lies and greasy perjury was a scowl and a harrumpf from the only member of his party who could pretend to have any moral authority.
